WALES FORMER WOLVES MAN MAKES POSITIVE COMPARISON

Wales international makes Cardiff City and Wolves comparison and delivers transfer prediction after the Bluebirds re-took their spot at the top of League One following their win over Mansfield Town at the weekend
By Glen Williams

Dressing Cardiff's season last year as anything other than a disaster would be disingenuous. One would have been hard pressed to find a fan who saw relegation as a positive thing. But after years of circling the drain in the Championship, there is finally a positivity around Cardiff City Stadium again, with the club sitting at the top of the league and young players from the academy flourishing.

And, speaking on the Sky Sports EFL podcast, ex-Wolves man Edwards praised Cardiff’s adaptation to life in League One under Brian Barry-Murphy.

He hailed the club’s bold decision to hand the reins to a coach renowned for developing young talent and drew parallels with his time at Molineux, recalling how relegation to League One ultimately put Wolves back on the right path.

I think they have adapted to the level really well,” Edwards, who earned 43 caps for Wales, said.

The vision they had to bring in Brian Barry-Murphy, to go in with a young team and to have a coach who develops young players, is really paying off already.

“There are some times when relegation is actually a good thing. I experienced that when I was at Wolves. We got relegated from the Championship to League One and it’s what the club needed.

“It needed re-galvanising and to bring through young talent. I feel like Cardiff are in the same boat. They had numerous seasons in and around the bottom of the Championship with not a lot to shout about.

"Now, they are really happy and excited about all the young talent they’ve got. And they’ve got the perfect person in charge to do that.”

While Edwards, who played in League One, the Championship and in the Premier League with Wolves, warned that settling into a new division takes time, he believes Cardiff have handled the transition impressively.

The former Wales international has also been impressed by what he has seen from the Bluebirds’ young core this season.

It does take time to adjust to the league. I found that at Wolves, but they’ve done it so well," he added.

I really like what Cardiff are doing. I’ve seen them a few times this year. Their young players — Dylan Lawlor, Rubin Colwill — so much young talent.

“Then they have some experienced heads just to balance it out nicely. The likes of Calum Chambers, Ryan Wintle
.”

With belief growing and momentum building, Edwards expects Cardiff to make some moves when the window opens next month and has predicted a serious promotion push.

All things are going well and I just see them continuing to do well and getting stronger," he said.

I see them investing in January and I think Cardiff will be in the top two come the end of the season.”

Hard to disagree with most of that, so I won’t; other than to say BBM might just be the ‘luckiest’ appointment made by our club, maybe ever! :ayatollah:
