BREAKING: PASSING OF WEST HAM LEGEND

Sun Nov 30, 2025 11:45 am

West Ham legend Billy Bonds MBE has died aged 79.

Bonds made a record 799 appearances for the Hammers and is the only player to captain them to two FA Cup victories, in 1975 and 1980.

He spent 21 years as a player with the Hammers between 1967-1988 and also managed them from 1990 to 1994.

"We are heartbroken to announce that we lost our beloved dad today," said a family statement.

"He was devoted to his family and was the most kind, loyal, selfless, and loving person.

"Dad loved West Ham United and its wonderful supporters with all his heart and treasured every moment of his time at the club.

"He will always be in our hearts and eternally missed. We take comfort knowing that his legacy will live on forever

Incredibly sad!

Billy Bonds was one of those players who got people out if their seats in his day and was instrumental in getting so many into football; mainly via Brian Moore’s London-centric ‘The Big Match’!

RIP, Billy Bonds; a legend (not just at WHU) in your lifetime!

Suprisingly he never played for England despite winning the FA cup and European Cup Winners cup. Presume he never played against City? Great player of his era.
