“The table is very tight,” Brian began. “Teams will look at this period of the season with so many fixtures as an opportunity to kick on.

"That is definitely our intention. We have won our last two home games in the league and on Saturday against a team managed by Nigel [Clough], who is an experienced manager, and they’re an experienced squad, so it will be a tough test for us.

“Our intention is to play well and to try and make it three home league wins in a row. It’s been a long time since we’ve been here.”

“I think the players are improving all the time. What you may see throughout the season are inconsistencies based on how new we are in terms of forming.

“As long as the players are focused on improving individually, then the collective performances will become more consistent. That is always the idea.

“I’m very confident that if we maintain that upward curve with our improvement, the results will be inevitable.

“ RUBIN COLWILL “

Brian Barry-Murphy will now have to find a new way to inject that creativity and replace the threat the mercurial academy product provides, with the head coach confirming Colwill will miss 10 to 12 weeks.

“ Rubin's timescale will be 10 to 12 weeks.”

"There's a discussion over the next 24 hours about whether he will have surgery or not. So by the time we come to the post-match press conference on Saturday, I'll be able to say that.

"But I think for the next 24 hours, he's going to make that decision based on, what he feels is best and the advice from James Rowland, our medical specialist.

"If he doesn't have surgery, you would be looking on the lower end, so looking at 10 weeks, if he does have surgery, you'll be looking at 12 to 13.

"When an injury of that nature occurs it's very disappointing for Rubin and for his team-mates. But once you get over the first couple of days, you quickly start to look at the recovery period and the timescales involved and start to see the opportunity that it provides for the rest of the squad, but also for him to come back in a much better position, physically, than he is at the moment."

“On Friday, Dylan Lawlor trained with us but wasn’t able to complete the session. This week has been much better. If today and tomorrow goes as well as it has done so far this week, he will definitely be available for selection.“

“Joel Colwill is a big doubt. He had a gash on his knee at Northampton, which we managed to make sure it didn’t get infected. He hasn’t trained this week and won’t train this week. At best, he’s 50/50 for Saturday. Apart from that, I don’t think there are any other injury issues.”

Brian Barry-Murphy said he has an "obsession" to improve Cardiff City's squad, but will only recruit players in the January transfer window if they make the side significantly better.

"I think our focus is really to have an obsession on just improving the squad," the Bluebirds boss said.

"If we can improve the squad in January with significant players who we feel enhance the squad significantly, that's the idea.

"And then we believe that will take us to where we want to go in the long term, but I think as long as that is our strategy, then it avoids any impulsive reactions to things like things like Rubin's injury or players having losses of form.”

If Rubin does not need the operation he will be back in training in 10-12 weeks ( up to 3 months )

If Rubin’s operated on it could be 5 months before he can be back in training which for me means he out for the season.

His best ever season
