Nathan Trott - how much would you pay?

Tue Nov 25, 2025 11:20 pm

I think we can all agree that Nathan Trott has been one of our best players this season so far.

Heard some say we'll lose him in January but that won't happen, Copenhagen have no recall clause so can't sell him to another club.

We also have the first chance with him in the summer, providing we get promoted, due to the option to buy deal in the loan deal.

How much do you think he's worth?

For me, he's the best we've had since David Marshall.

If we get promoted, I say give Copenhagen whatever they want so we can keep him.

Best keeper in this League as I have said before - If we go up has to be the first signing we make for next season.

I agree.

Doubt that Vincent will see it that way though for a player who will have played all season without scoring a goal.

I’m sure we have an option to buy if promoted around 1.75m I recall posting it as I thought we were actually signing him permanently for that much??

Not sure though can’t remember my post?

Let's hope we get promoted automatically, otherwise I fear trott could be offered far more than we would be prepared to pay for him, i am sure its been noted by other clubs how good he is.

Trott has been fantastic saved us so many times and earned so many valuable points.

At this level £2mill.

Championship I can’t say ?

How does the obligation-to-buy work? I can see someone way higher than us in the pyramid or even abroad putting a bid in if it's not exclusive/protected. He's been outstanding.

The agreement is that we have the option to buy at a pre-set price, when/if we are promoted back to the Championship

It’s worth noting that Nathan Trott is very happy here under BBM and I’m sure someone will know the figure involved, but the deal is pre-agreed under the above criteria :ayatollah:

So promotion is the only option if we want any chance of holding on to him because I think there will be a few takers if we don't get that agreed option

1.8 million euros was the amount agreed on which now we've seen him in action is a ridiculously small amount and would be the bargain of the century if we sign him

UPDATE:

Nathan Trott was acquired on loan from Danish giants Copenhagen, with a reported option-to-buy clause is available for Cardiff on the condition of promotion back to the Championship, which, if activated, would cost Barry-Murphy's side just £1.57 m (€1.8m)

Given his impact on the team, that fee, at this moment in time, would represent something of a bargain for Trott's services, with the England U-21 capped Bermudan-born shot-stopper evidently classes above League One and more-than-capable of holding his own in the Championship

I feel that we must do everything we can to keep our in-form keeper and the preferred option would clearly be to ‘buy him now’ (Xmas window), but the caveat to that is the ‘if we get promoted to the Championship’ clause

Promotion and he’s our player; but given the season he’s having, any failure to secure said promotion would surely see his services sought by other clubs higher up the pyramid?

Thanks, I was writing as you put this up!

I agree, he would be a proverbial ‘bargain’ at that price, and with his best years to come, he could prove to be one of our best signings ever! :ayatollah:

I can't see us buying him in January because there would be a small chance that we don't go up and he won't want another season in League One - he's clearly above this level.

The club have done really well here getting an agreed price in place. If not it's fair to day his value is well in excess of 1.75m so an instant bargain. Just need promotion to activate it
