:bluebird: :bluebird: “ BRIAN BARRY-MURPHY WILL TODAY UPDATE CARDIFF CITY FANS “ :bluebird:

Thursday 20th November 2025

BBM Needs to get the Bluebirds in the league back to Winning ways and starting away at 16th place Northampton this Saturday

With 6 Defeats now in his last 11 games BBM knows he needs to get the automatic promotion run back on track.

BBM:

“Always, you’re looking to establish momentum and get a rhythm in the players where they feel as if it’s not stop-start but the nature of the season is there have been international breaks, which have been beneficial for different reasons.

“This next stage of the season is one where it’s quite beneficial for us to have all the players fit and we need them available as of now because there are so many different games.

“As long as we perform to the level that we can, they’ll all be needed.”

"Ollie Tanner is back on the grass. He's back running after his ankle surgery," the boss added. "So that gives us a big lift to see him back on the pitch, but I still wouldn't put a timescale on when he's likely to return."

“Ollie Tanner is making good progress anmd hopefully back in January.”

“Eli King is out for the season.”

BRIAN BARRY-MURPHY:

"At Blackpool we were not good enough, and we have to swallow that, accept it, I felt the pain of it.”

'I sometimes cringe' - Barry-Murphy responds to Celtic links.”

"So my focus is totally on trying to win on Saturday."

Nevertheless, it's fair to say Barry-Murphy is attracting interest from outside, with Wales boss Craig Bellamy among those to have praised the City boss for his efforts this season.

The Cardiff boss was in attendance to watch Wales crush North Macedonia 7-1 on Tuesday night, and says Bellamy is similarly having a positive impact on his own efforts to try and bring City back into the Championship.

Northampton Manager:

Kevin Nolan is looking forward to Saturday’s home game against Cardiff City, and a chance for the Cobblers to test themselves against one of the favourites for promotion.

“Saturday is another great test for us but we’re in a good place and if we can continue to keep getting better with the ball it will give us a really good chance,” he said.

“Cardiff are a very good side and first off we have to match them for their effort but they are coming here and it’s up to us to put it on the opposition as well.

“They will be up there come the end of the season as you’d expect and it will be another tough one as they all are but on our day we can beat anyone in this league and if we can execute our game plan we will give ourselves a chance of taking something from the game.

“I’ve enjoyed the break but I’m looking forward to a really busy period we’ve got coming up.

“We’ve had a little bit of downtime, it’s a chance to clear your head and re-evaluate what has gone on.

“The players had a bit of downtime over the weekend but we were back in on Monday and you could feel the buzz around the place.

“Cardiff is a great game to come back to and it is one we are really relishing. It’s good to be back at Sixfields and we are looking forward to it.”

“CRAIG BELLAMY”

"I think the other way is that I'm taking a lot from the way he works, and the language he uses is very inspiring for myself and the players," he added.

"It's quite nice to have it in such close proximity, because we train in the same complex and there is such close correlation between club and country in this city.

"But the mentality of the team on Tuesday is something I admire greatly and would want our team to be striving for.

Omari Kellyman:

“It’s taken a bit of getting used to," Omari began. "We’ve had a schedule with a lot of games back to back, which is something that I’ve not done for a long time.

“The international breaks help me a lot because it’s given me some time where I can reset.

"I’m putting my body through a lot at the minute so the breaks are good so that I’m ready to get back to a place where I can go again.

“It was really difficult. It was a whole season where I was going in every day to do rehab and it was tough.

"I think you sort of lose sight a little bit of why you’re doing it. Now I’m here playing games again, it’s a nice reminder of why the dark times are good to come back from.”

Omari Kellyman:

"I didn't know a lot about Cardiff before I came here but I'm liking it," Omari continued. "Looking before I joined, I noticed that it was quite a young squad, which is always an appealing factor.

"It was one of the things that pulled me toward the club, and the manager as well.

“He has been great with me, and I think it’s great that he’s patient because of where I was starting from. He’s helped me a lot."

Concluding, Kellyman added: “I’m confident and look at every game as an opportunity, so we’ve got opportunities to get points and progress in the league. I want to play anywhere that I can make things happen."

Chris Willock and Perry Ng, meanwhile, could well be in contention.

"Chris and Perry joined us on Monday so I guess there are some questions on how ready those guys are for a Saturday based on what they've been through, but we're still trying to give them every chance to be competing for a place in our squad."

BBM:

“We trained pretty intensely last week because so many of our Academy players featured in the game against Arsenal," Brian began.

“That was a pleasing evening for us all and gave us a lot. It was a very positive outcome to get through to the next round.

“The players who didn’t play in that game trained for the rest of the week and that has put us in a good position. Fingers-crossed that when we train this afternoon, we’ll have a clean bill of health.

“The beauty of the way that we work means that we see most of those Academy players most days anyway. Some of those players will have had more exposure with us than others.

"To see them perform the way they did naturally increases their chances of being involved in training, then the better they do gives them a chance of being involved.”

“Ollie Tanner is back on the pitch now, he’s running. He’s had ankle surgery so it gives us a big boost to see him on the pitch. I still wouldn’t put a timescale on when he’s likely to return.

Good comments.

Great news that Tanner is back on the grass and everyone else apart from Eli King is fit and available.

Cardiff City boss Brian Barry-Murphy has given an injury update ahead of this weekend’s game against Northampton.

The Bluebirds won five of their first six league games this season but go into Saturday’s trip to Sixfields on the back of successive away defeats, beaten by Bolton and then Blackpool and now lost six of their last eleven games

“Ollie Tanner is back on the pitch now, he’s running,” said Barry-Murphy. “He’s had ankle surgery so it gives us a big boost to see him on the pitch. I still wouldn’t put a timescale on when he’s likely to return.

“Chris Willock and Perry Ng joined us in training on Monday and I guess there’s a question mark over how ready they are for Saturday based on what they’ve been through. We’re still trying to give them every chance to be competing for a place in the squad.

“We trained pretty intensely last week because so many of our academy players featured in the game against Arsenal. The players who didn’t play in that game trained for the rest of the week and that has put us in a good position. Fingers crossed that when we train this afternoon (Thursday), we’ll have a clean bill of health.”

Despite their recent stutter, Cardiff could still go top of League One with victory at Sixfields.

Barry-Murphy added: “Always, you’re looking to establish momentum and get a rhythm in the players where they feel as if it’s not stop-start but the nature of the season is there have been international breaks, which have been beneficial for different reasons.

“This next stage of the season is one where it’s quite beneficial for us to have all the players fit and available as of now because there are so many different games. As long as we perform to the level that we can, they’ll all be needed.”
