Do they not want to progress???
Are they way to Cosy?
I noticed that Arsenal U21’s went out last year to Colchester from League 2 ( Div 4) and Arsenal lost to us and Exeter this season.
Liverpool U21’s finished Bottom of their group.
Only West Ham U21’s went through.
Clubs like Bristol Rovers ( Div 4 ) Win their group
Maybe the U21 Teams from Premier should not be in and we would get tougher opponents from the Conference in this Competition?

It's is open to cat one academy players from championship and premier league.....the clubs need to be invited to play in it... guess premier academy players are not the best but they often come across seasoned professionals from div 1 &2 especially after group stages so little wonder they don't progress ..... having said that city's youngsters were far superior to arsenal's with one or two exceptions.

Not one academy team as won competition in its history so clubs obviously choose which academy players play like said come against seasoned players from div 1 &2 mainly city's team the exception rather than the rule.
Putting in national league teams won't enhance competition

For me it shows you can have the most talented young players but the difference between playing against men week in week out is massive and is why most of the best young players who make it at the top level go out and do there apprenticeship on loan playing men week in week out in the lower leagues

Totally agree, these PL U21 teams shouldn't be in it.

I dont think its a surprise the u21 sides don't qualify.
Even a top side would not expect more than 2 or 3 to make it to be a Premier League player whilst maybe another 4 or 5 end up in the lower leagues. The rest don't make it. Add in the fact that some of the better 19 and 20 year olds are out on loan to get experience and its hardly surprising that they lose to experienced older mature men
however yesterdays result was brilliant because our team was a team of boys shorn of the star players.

Will say though the number 53 for arsenal sagoe Jr was a handful, wouldn’t be suprised to se him at a L1 club on loan in January.

U21 football is pointless exhibition games there to protect and add value to Premier League clubs' assets. The kids need to be loaned to men's football as soon as possible.

This is a good question on do the Premier league U21's want to progress in this tournament -
For me it's good these clubs are in this tournament with the U21's getting game time and a loan move in Jan .
National League clubs would be stronger in this tournament and give them the next step up .
There is a tournament which runs hand in hand with the ELF Trophy called - National League Cup -
Which puts the National League clubs against - Premier and Championship U21's team 4 Groups x 8 Teams .

So Plymouth Bottom of Our League ( League 1 / Division 3 ) and Bristol Rovers ( League 2 / / Division 4 ) and Spurs end up Winless and Bottom and Liverpool ended up Bottom of another Group and Arsenal Fail to Qualify in Our Group etc etc etc
Get them Out and replace them with National League Teams who will come to Win and give our youngsters a tough game and make them stronger.
