My View: Tonight Cardiff City’s Very young young guns beat 10 Men Arsenals U21’s in a very entertaining game at CCS:

Really enjoyed watching them and great to see some of the young talent we have coming through.

But nearly everyone on hear said they would be happy to go out as we don’t need more games. Well I am Chuffed for these Kids, so play them next round, they should be good enough?

Cardiff truly deserved this Win.

TROY PERRETT MAN OF THE MATCH

Debono, Spiers and George all stood out for me .

Arsenal U21’s had lost their previous fixture to Exeter 4-3 and so tonight would decide who would go through to the next round.
Last season Arsenal’s U21’s went out to League 2 Colchester, Sometimes I think they become to big for their boots.

There were five First Team debuts in the starting XI in the forms of Gabriel Keita, Alyas Debono, Matty Apter, Trey George and Dan Ola.

On the bench, there were six potential debuts, with Luke Pearce the only player to have a City appearance to his name.

Arsenal fielded a lot of U21’s plus a few younger players as well.

SECOND-HALF: Cardiff were by far the better team this half:

59mins: Arsenal Red card! Alexei Rojas is sent off for taking out Luke Pearce on the break!
Pearce rounds the goalkeeper and he is poleaxed after doing so. Cardiff free-kick just outside the area.

City were now doing all the attacking against 10 men Arsenal

GOAL! Cardiff City 2-1 Arsenal U21s (Spiers 67)
Goal! A low cross from Will Spiers defeats everyone and nestles into the corner!
The winger, who has now had to revert to a left-back role, whips in a cross with his right and substitute 'keeper, Remy Mitchell, is waiting for a Cardiff foot to poke it towards goal.
But it evades everyone and by the time Mitchell realises that, it's too late and the ball has nestled into the bottom corner.

FIRST-HALF: have to say well Done City.

GOAL! Cardiff City 0-1 Arsenal U21s (Washington 17)
Charles Sagoe Jr the architect of that one. He lays off Washington, who drills low, under the Cardiff defenders' legs, and it flies past Matt Turner into the back of the net.

GOAL! Cardiff City 1-1 Arsenal U21s (Perrett 19)
Goal! Troy Perrett hits back immediately! What a lovely way for the playmaker to open his senior account.
Almost straight from kick-off, Perrett receives possession just outside the Gunners' area and then he jinks past two Arsenal defenders before rifling low under Alexei Rojas!

94mins:GOAL! Cardiff City 3-1 Arsenal U21s (George 90+4)

Gooooal! Troy George gets the goal he deserves!

Sykes is half-tackled in the box and it falls to George, who hits low and Mitchell doesn't do enough to keep it out as the ball buries into the bottom corner.

A great win! Perrett had so much confidence going forward. We could do with him in the first team.

That was quite enjoyable & looking forward to the next round now. Win, lose or draw doesn't matter but the future certainly looks bright with these youngsters.

Brilliant, didn't expect to enjoy it but really enjoyed that.

Fully deserved, pleased for all of them and very proud.

Got to say that Perrett has impressed me every time I see him.

I think he’s probably the next one to get a chance in a First XI squad. Seems a very intelligent player as well as technically good.

Hope he continues improving.

Fantastic display, everyone of those lads did us proud tonight, if that's what our academy is producing then the future is very bright and is why we have to be patient with bbm, arsenal are one of if not the best academy around and we beat them comfortably

Enjoyed that, great showing against a PL side and bodes well for the future. Agree with MOM but plenty of positives to pick out from that and the way the squad played unselfishly as a team.

We're going to Wemberleeee.

I missed a lot of tonight’s game for personal reasons, but what I did see appeared to show a very good performance against a talented Arsenal U-21 side from our own young Bluebirds :bluebird:

Credit to them and I have to eat humble pie, and say that was more than encouraging, after I initially diminished the game’s importance in our season

However, what it does do, is provide yet another competitive experience for our future first team players that is to be welcomed by all at the club! :ayatollah:

Should we perhaps give Darren Purse some credit now? He's often criticised on this forum. His U21 side did us proud tonight. The future is bright at City and we have been crying out to see this for years.

absolutely superb performance, every player gave everything, two centre backs ensured turner hardly had asave to make. for me luke pearce swung the game in our favour in the first 20 minutes of the second half. how many of these boys will be first teamers in the next two seasons, quite a few on that performance.

Totally agree, he looked 21 not 16 and put himself about against much older CBs. Our CBs also really impressed me tonight.
When I think back to how sluggish our CM were against Newport, these boys really did us proud :bluescarf:

Enjoyed watching last night they done well from start to finish. It does make you wonder how much talent has actually gone to be released and play for Ponty for example when they don't get seen or given a chance over the last few years unlike lastnight when we all got to see what's coming up throughout. Although I doubt any will get much first team action due to it already being a younger squad unless we get some solid experienced harden players come January. Hopefully he does the same next round :bluescarf:

That sago junior if that's how you spell it was there best player by a mile for me :bluescarf:

Do they not want to progress???

Are they way to Cosy?

I noticed that Arsenal U21’s went out last year to Colchester from League 2 ( Div 4) and Arsenal lost to us and Exeter this season.

Liverpool U21’s finished Bottom of their group.

Only West Ham U21’s went through.

Clubs like Bristol Rovers ( Div 4 ) Win their group

Maybe the U21 Teams from Premier should not be in and we would get tougher opponents from the Conference in this Competition
