Do we go for it or just take the hit and get on with the priority, out of the FA Cup so this one is a bit pointless :bluebird:

Annis, that’s music to my ears, as I know you will agree!

We have way bigger priorities than putting out first team out for this one!

How is that fixture even allowed? It’s almost the Premier League slapping the EFL in the face, saying ‘our youngsters are as good as yours!’

Well, a bright side is that now I guess we’ll find out how good ours are in a competitive environment! :ayatollah:

Put out our strongest side apart from the international players with maybe Mafico and one other to get experience. No excuses for not putting out a strong side as we don't have another game for 11 days after the Arsenal match and only 3 games in the next 25 days. If they cant cope with that god help us.

We are out the FA Cup and very unlikely to go further in the League Cup.

Said on the match thread that I fully expect us to lose this game.

BBM has made it clear that he's not going to play a strong team so there will be no surprises when we see the line-up.

I'll watch it but I think most fans are not going to be too bothered if we lose, most of us expect it.

I get what you’re saying, Sven, but let’s be honest — most of our academy lads are away on international duty, so this idea of “seeing how good ours are” doesn’t really work. We’d be left scratching around for whoever’s still here, and that’s hardly a fair test of anyone.
For me, this is a good chance to sort out the problems we had at Blackpool — the defending was all over the place, and the finishing was poor. This game should be used to fix that, not thrown away.
I’d give Trott and Salech a rest and let Turner have a go in goal. I’d also like to see if Robinson can actually play off a proper target man. The only one available from the academy who fits that bill is Daniel Ola — 6'4", two-footed, still learning, but looks a real handful.
So no, I wouldn’t be surrendering the game by chucking out what’s left of the academy. We should be putting out a strong first-team squad, with a few young lads mixed in. That way, we’re improving as a team and not just turning up to make up the numbers.
Let Arsenal’s kids see what a proper Championship side looks like — make them earn it.

But they're not playing a Championship side they're playing a league 1 side with a load of players of all ages away on international duty.

Ooops, fair shout — I keep forgetting they’re in League One these days, old habits and all that!?
But the rest of what I said still stands, and that’s the main point. We’ve got lads missing across all age groups with the internationals, and Arsenal are in the same boat — they’ve got about seven or eight academy players away as well.
So neither side’s anywhere near full strength. That’s exactly why I think it makes sense to use the game to fix a few issues and give some fringe first-teamers a go, rather than turning it into an academy training session.

Totally agree. Absolutely should play our strongest side.its a competitive match and the last until a week Saturday. Find a lot more out than in training and it's actually a trophy we could win.lose to Chelsea and don't go up the seasons a total bust.

All of these qualify: Trott, Chambers, Bagan, Robertson, Kelleman, Salech. Plus the subs, except Isaac Davies, who it seems has got a hamstring injury again, so plenty of squad players available, just add a few of the remaining academy players

Seems I was wrong about Isaac Davies and his hamstring injury. I see he has been called up to the Wales Squad, according to WalesOnline.

I wonder if we'll see a few first minute substitutions to get around the competition rules?

If this is on city tv I'll give it a watch. Want us to win every game but won't be getting excited if we lose.

I'll watch it too but feel exactly the same about this game as you've said.

We know what team to expect, because the manager has already said it. For that reason, I do expect us to lose.

We have to play 4 first teamers minimum to comply with the rules or do you think we will just take the fine and play all kids

Could do what's been suggested by someone else, and make four subs in the first minute to comply with the rules.

Robbie Savage did that with Forest Green in the non-league version of this competition.
