Boss Rob Edwards has been stood down from Middlesbrough's game against Birmingham on Saturday amid Wolves' interest in appointing him as their new manager.

Wolves saw an approach to speak to Edwards rejected by Boro on Thursday and the manager was locked in talks with members of the Championship club's hierarchy on Friday.

Edwards did not hold his regular pre-game news conference or oversee the team's final training session before the Championship game with Birmingham.

And it has now emerged he will not take charge of the home match against the Blues this afternoon.

Edwards signed a three-year contract to succeed Michel Carrick as Middlesbrough manager in June.

The side from north east England are third in the table going into this weekend's games.

I always find situations like this distasteful and they offer no credit to the manager involved; particularly when he recently signed a 3-year contract, and his current club are doing very well

Whilst I appreciate his links to Wolves, he should have more respect for the club who employed him, the players he had to convince to ‘buy in’ to his vision, and to the Boro faithful, who thought they finally had someone who would take them forward again

Easy to say ‘there’s no loyalty ether way’, but that is too simplistic a view, but ‘loyalty’ should still have some ‘value

For me, it’s even odder when you consider both club’s positions of both clubs, i .e. Boro doing so well, whilst Wolves are a sinking club who have more chance of playing us next season than being in the Premier League; mainly thanks to their poor recruitment over the summer

Edwards will likely get his ‘wish’, but I can’t see how he’ll be any better off come the end of this season? :?

Mentioned this on another thread.

Middlesbrough fans are rightly not happy. Seems inevitable he'll go to Wolves now.

Not even sure it's a good move. Wolves will probably be in the Championship next season and Middlesbrough seem to have a decent chance of promotion.

Another welcome reminder that football teams are just a job for these managers. Offered more money elsewhere and they’re likely to take it.

Apologies, Ned. Just saw it!

But you are correct. Previous ‘connections’ to Wolves apart, it doesn’t appear to be the ‘smart’ move, and surely will do his future credibility and prospects harm? :?

Mind you, if he were to keep a self-inflicted (by their hierarchy) pretty poor Wolves team up, I guess there will always be ‘takers:ayatollah:

No surprise, but it weems he’s been given ‘permission’ to discuss the managerial position with Wolves! :(

Don't think they had much choice in the end, otherwise he'd just resign and they'd have to go through the courts to get their compensation.
