REMEMBERANCE DAY POPPY APPEAL SHAME

Fri Oct 31, 2025 9:34 pm

I have heard and noticed a creeping resentment towards anything accociated with remberance day which i find appalling as my father fought at monti casino italy and his brother in Burma both heavily wounded my dad at 18 and his brother 20 .
I don't need some lefty telling me not to remember like down in Penarth today.

I Fully Support the Poppy

Being in the forces I am a big advocate of the Poppy and what it stands for. Anyone who behaves likes this is scum.

However, the RBL is my least favourite Armed Forced charity. They have zero checking mechanism and regard 1 day service as commensurate to 30 years. I have seen this be taken advantage of various times and asked the RBL directly about this where the above was confirmed.

I wear a Poppy but RBL doesn’t get my money.

It’s not a purely left or right thing, I sway to the left but fully respect the poppy and everything it stands for.

I may not agree with the wars but have full respect to the brave men and women that protect this country.

I'm left. I've, always supported the Vets. My grandfather who I never met
had his leg shot off in World War 1.Being unable to work it affected the whole family.
No PIP & cars in those, days.My father was a train driver dodging enemy aircraft.
I think these idiots need a talking to.

Absolutely disgraceful that those commemorating those who fought and died for their country are attacked/abused verbally or otherwise for caring

Sadly, it’s a growing sign of the times , permitted by the Government, others with political agendas, the police, authorities, and often the public, who modernly turn a blind eye until it’s too late

It’s the Wales Festival of Remembrance tonight, and I will be there showing my respect for those fallen in too many conflicts and events

As the saying goes, ‘They gave their today for our tomorrow:cry:

How do we know these people were 'left wing'? Perhaps they were simply idiots? The whole angry, tribal right vs left agenda is very sad at the moment. We have far more in common than that, that divides us. I am very confident that the overwhelming majority of every day people from the left or right of politics respect Remembrance Sunday and the poppy.

My father got shot on a scouting mission crossing a river near salerno with the black cat division, scouting out the areas at night before the main lot of troops came through.
He trood on a land mine at the battle of monti casino blew him 12ft in the air he ended up in the Queens hospital Birmingham for 6 months lost a big chunk out of his thigh and had shrapnel lodged in his back which was to close to his spine, so it was left in there but played him up all his life, but he went on to be a tennis champion and biked everywhere to build strength back in his leg,all as an 18 year old ,
later he survived cancer but eventually died with a long time suffering with parkinsons disease at 89 , so he will be remembered.

The reporter would not just make that statement if he did not have evidence of far left, most laymen can make a decision on what an idiot is and you know left wingers you don't need to hold a placard saying socialist workers antifa etc.

Do you really believe that reporters don't make stuff up? Or is that just the other side ? It doesn't always have to be one side or the other, it can just be an idiot.

Whichever side of several you support, doing this is just wrong, we should either support it (the poppy appeal) or not and if not then just ignore it it not shout abuse or whatever at people who do.

Re: REMEMBERANCE DAY POPPY APPEAL SHAME

The reporter did not call them left wing. The term left wing is in quotation marks which means it's the accusers that called them that.

I agree with a comment above, it's not about left or right - those who fought for their country should be respected.

It doesn't bother me personally when these people don't want Remembrance parades, ignore them is best and crack on and do it anyway. :bluebird:

Respect to your dad, Monty!

My grandfather died in the war, as did an uncle, who was an RAF pilot. Other members of the family survived, including my uncle Ken from Caerau, Ely; an army boxing champion, who also fought in Korea. The reading of his battle deeds and honours at his funeral was humbling in the extreme, as it was something he never talked about to us as kids!

Respect to all yours dad never spoke either till his last year in a home,
my dad's sister lost her husband a month after there marriage a glider pilot dropping paras to secure the bridges at caen the night before the landings all these things should be remembered sadly we are part of the "so called west" that are hated by a lot but i will stand up for the rights our previous family fought for,
oddly to allow people to protest in the streets against us.

I was told it's compulsory to choose one of the three I listed but don't know about what is not been taught, i would guess British history as it seems we should all be ashamed of our history slavery etc pulling down statues here with any reference to the slave trade, but no one is demanding the pyramids should be dismantled as they were built by black slaves.

I’m not sure that’s true.

There is no educational teaching of World War 1 World War two or any other past conflict in our history anymore. Its basically Greek, Roman, bit of Tudors and some do cover Germany but nothing in relation to something that would cover Rememberance. A lot of schools or Universities (some still do have UOTC though) wont even let the British military in anymore.

You should be very proud of them but you have probably brought them up to be respectful, and with the knowledge to understand what it's for and what it means, we'll done jock.

Don’t have to agree with the conflict, have to respect those who served.just spare a thought for those who gave everything.
