RUBIN COLWILL :
The guy is an enigma .
Aged 23 / 152 Appearances for Cardiff City
For me Rubin should be our best player / Sadly Not Consistent / But Why?
Is he the super player that some believe he is or is he a luxury player ? Is #10 his best position ? Should he be our leader on the pitch (as BBM believes and made him captain) ? ….or should he be only a squad player ….in and out of the team ?
Should he be an impact player for specific games at specific times ?
The frustrating thing is that Rubin can make the most wonderful and effective move with the ball ….or he can lose the ball often and unnecessarily .
One thing for sure is that he can go missing in some games or for long periods of others .
The other important thing , is that I do not believe that he is a #10 …..but neither is he a wide player .
Should he be in the center of midfield ? ….well…yes he can spray the ball and sometimes dictate play ….but then he will also keep losing the ball in midfield and this is murder .
Why does Bellamy not rate him all that much ? ……and why does BBM rate him so highly ?
What is Rubin Colwill ?
I would really like honest opinions on this paradox of a player .

He was shocking Saturday and couldn’t even get the basics right, but he wasn’t alone. The problem is, if Rubin doesn’t play well neither do we. I think that’s evident on what I’ve seen this season. Despite his levels not being what they were in August and early September he was still at the heart of the comeback against Orient and Reading.
I think the slack he gets is beyond. Fans are quick to turn on him when things go wrong (not saying your post is that Annis) but social media in general.

I rate him and I still think he's our best outfield player
I think the problem for rubin is his development was halted due to him being kept in limbo for so long
he wasn’t getting loaned out when he needed a run of professional level games and he wasn’t getting a run of games for us until maybe two seasons ago
then he's thrown in the team and expected to perform at the highest level week in week out
people talk about his age and say he should be there by now but for the reasons I gave above I feel he's a special case where we need to be patient
we've seen what he can do on his day and I believe he will find that level consistently over time
but tbf the club have dropped the ball on some of our youngsters and it shows this season with most of them holding their own in league one yet we seem to send most of them to non league or Welsh league on loan

It was his best ever start to a season but sadly didn’t last, the high press and win the ball back immediately just caught up with him and he’s lost his confidence and stamina it seems.
Right now put him on bench and give someone else a go(Robbo or Robertson) maybe.
Also I know he’s vice Captain but with Chambers not selected often I just don’t see him as Captain material.

I honestly think it's confidence and if he losses the ball groans from fans don' t help, he was storming at the start of the season been captain and his brother playing along side him the free kicks he scored from were world class but sadly not everyone is consitant
Mo sala example for liverpool off the boil
I would much rather see colwill doing his runs creating thing's rather than turnbull who just passes the ball like a robot, I can live with his mistakes as long as its countered with brillance.

I think when he is one to one marked, he gets lost, loses to much ball, I would like Chambers in MF, my opinion, this will free Rubin up to be more deadly with the wingers and strikers.

He's a very frustrating player.
On his day he controls the game, holds off players and finds a killer pass.
Recently he struggled to make a six-yard pass and loses nearly every ball.
He needs to find more consistency, and he needs to be taken off when playing bad.

Wrexham have a very good midfield so tonight will be a real test for him if selected, it doesn't help when he has the likes of Turnbull, Wintle around him who do very little serious running and this is where he gets dragged in, that's my 10p worth anyway.

I've been critical of Rubin in the past but I have to be honest, I have no issue at the moment.
In the past when he hasn't been playing well, he's looked uninterested and hasn't worked hard. That's been my big issue.
But he's had a dip in form at the moment but is probably doing as much running as anybody else. He is still working hard.
Form will come and go for a player like him but if he keeps his work rate high then I have no issue.

I believe his best position is deeper.
He's not quick enough to feed off the striker.
The more I see us play, the more I think 3-5-2 suits our players better.
Trott
Lawlor
Fish
Osho/Chambers
Kpakio
Bagan as wing backs
Wintle
Robertson
Colwill
Salech
Robinson/Kellyman/Ashford/Davies

Rubin has been with us a good while now,has all the ability,,played under a few managers,,and not one of them has got him to control games on a regular basis,,,why i dont know..could say a lot,but it all been said...But you can see why bellamy does not pick him,,,he goes missing for long periods in games..Hope it happens for him...but i dont know......What i do know is why did the Tinkerman Drop Chambers last saturday...Best player on the Field......We will beat the clog heads tnite....

Osho, I'm nervous at just the thought of it!

Disagree with a few others, I think his best position would be behind the striker.
I think he’s been targeted and is being forced into making simple mistakes, but the guy can create 3 yards of space with the dip of a shoulder.
His growth issues stunted his progress. I’m hoping he gains some traction and puts in more good than bad performances for the rest of the season.
As others said, when he’s playing well we look a formidable team, but if the team have an off day he’s top of the list for worst performance. I’m not sure if it’s that when he plays well he drags others along, or when the team play well he comes out on top

Me too, but also know there's a good player in there

I share the frustration many have expressed: recently he has made too many errors. I think it's too early to make judgement on him. It depends how long the 'dip' lasts.

Kellyman is going to take ten.
He played central midfield against Villa in the cup last year and did really well.
At the moment put him on the bench and get him to make an impact when he cones on for the last 30mins.

Good players score a minimum 7 out of 10 on 90% of the games they play. Clearly that has never happened with Rubin. He has the skill but his concentration with losing the ball in dangerous areas is common and he seems flat footed . I rated him , but I have doubts he will be a top player.

Too right, great performance. Wrexham were scared of him.
The way he absorbs tackles and then glides past the opposition players is just brilliant and so ice cool under pressure.

And was voted MOM tonight from ITV .

My view is everyone has started game planning to stop him in league one, we are the biggest game of the season for most teams. It very difficult for him to do anything in those situations. Wrexham thought they would simply outclass us tonight.
