We are performing well

Mon Oct 27, 2025 12:25 pm

There has been a rhetoric that we are not playing well, but this doesn't stand up to scrutiny as you'll see below.

These are some of the stats and we are still amongst the best in the league. Some will say our performances have dropped off significantly but if that were true, then these ratings would have also dipped hugely and they haven't.

So here's some stats of where we are compared to the rest of the league:

Average team performance rating - Joint 2nd

Goals per game - 2nd

Goals conceded per game - Joint 1st

Average possession - 1st

Expected goals - Joint 3rd

Big chances - Joint 2nd

Accurate passes - 1st

Touches in opposition box - 4th

Possession won in final third - 2nd

Obviously there are areas to improve, so for example we've missed the most big chances. That shows we are creating chances but need to be taking more of them.

Trott has made the fifth most saves which shows the goal needs to be defended better before it gets to him.

We have the 8th most accurate crosses per match which is good but can be improved.

So by all these metrics, we're doing pretty well and should give people a clear idea as to why we are top of the league.

We are competing at the top of the league on all the most important data.

Even your beloved manager has been saying we are not performing.

He hasn't said that. He's said the level has dropped slightly, which it has.

But all the data shows we are still amongst the best in the league.

You said we'd struggle this season so I'm a bit surprised that you now think we're underperforming?

Yes he has.

We are the best due to the start we have. It would be a different story if it was taken over the last few games where we have been mid table at best.

If we continue like this we will struggle to maintain a promotion bid. With the small squad we have and the injuries we are getting I can see this happeming. Adding to that the new comers we have had with the likes of Osho and Kellyman who has not impressed me I can see us dropping down the league.

Saying "we haven't played that well" is not the same as saying "we're not performing".

You can say you'll think we'll drop down the league but the data doesn't support that theory.

You also said in the summer that we'd be mid table if we were lucky so I'll say it again, you must be delighted that we've exceeded your expectations?

Also, over the last five games the only team that have got more than one point more than us is Stockport. So it's not the doom and gloom that some are suggesting.

I shudder to think what it would be like on here if we were where the two other relegated teams are.

The expectations from fans are sky high because we are used to being at least in the Championship. The presumption is we should be playing teams off the park in League One. It doesn't work like that. Teams see us as a big scalp particularly when we are at home. I noted on the Bradford, Orient and Reading forums how they all felt their best performance of the season was against us. We lost narrowly on a weekend to very decent Bolton side with a last minute goal. Performance levels have been inconsistent in recent matches but I don't think we've ever played poorly. Fans need to be much more patient, and as you say look at Luton and Plymouth. No team has the right in this league.

Yes I'm please where we are but I'm not confident we are going to stay there and that is due to the size of the squad and the quality we have as backup. Since losing the like of Tanner and missing out on Lawlor we have struggled.

As for the other teams I only care about Cardiff City.

That's fair enough - I don't agree, but that's a fair comment.

I still maintain that we will finish up there. We need to improve our shot conversion with the chances we are creating, but otherwise I'm pleased with how we're progressing.

He says that every year.

We have been getting relegated for the last 7 seasons with Ian.

Good to see it in black and white. I’m concerned about our lack of form but overall I’m chuffed with where we are. Top of the league.

Re: We are performing well

Mon Oct 27, 2025 5:31 pm

We had a good start though I’d be interested to see those stats adjusted for the past 6/7 games.

Re: We are performing well

Mon Oct 27, 2025 5:54 pm

The Average possession and Accurate passing stats are extremely misleading, as they are a result of the two central defenders, two full backs and goalkeeper passing the ball back and fore to each other, with passes being no more than 20 yards. I could still do that even at my old age. We MUST get rid of this boring play, as it will lose supporters quickly. I still have faith in BBM but he MUST change these tactics asap.

I completely disagree. The style is the reason we are where we are.

We MUST NOT change our tactics.

You must be easily pleased - I admire you for that, but I find this modern football style the most boring I have witnessed, in the 76 years that I have supporting my beloved City. WE ARE NOT Manchester City!

I'm not easily pleased. I was dreading the thought of someone like Nathan Jones coming in, would have hated to watch that style.

A broken clock is right two times a day.

A Leicester fan won thousands from his every year bet that Leicester would win the PL.

It pissed me off we were relegated. I bet you were happy to be finally proven right.

I'm fuming we got relegated and put the whole blame on Tan.

But yes there is a bit of satisfaction getting something right. You might one day experience that.

I have very little pride in our fan base at the moment, too if the league and the in fighting is as bad as ever.
We should be ashamed of ourselves.

There’s a list of people who seem to take pleasure in us doing badly.

I think it’s hatred of Tan that overpowers the support of Cardiff.

It’s a very strange phenomenon. Some are losing the heads.
Someone said I was make myself out to be a 6’5 mma fighter the other night. Because I pointed out they what they were spouting was nonsense with no evidence to back it up. I mean what relevance does that have with anything.
