A forum for all things Cardiff City

Cardiff dominated possession but failed to truly test Bolton goalkeeper Teddy Sharman-Lowe, understandably leaving Barry-Murphy frustrated by his team’s lack of cutting edge.
BBM:
“For as much possession as we had, we didn’t create enough chances close to their goal or enough shooting opportunities,” he added. “To have such little impact on the keeper is disappointing and something we’re very conscious of, we did not make him make one save.”
“When you don’t have enough attacking momentum or create enough chances, you’re always in danger of conceding a goal like we did.”

At some point he has to look in the mirror.
Pre the first international break we were exciting, attacking as teams didn't have a clue how we'd play.
Between the international breaks, teams have had time to analyse us and the games where we have struggled.
As a fan without all those analysts, I can see a simple compact low block stops us as we don't have the tools to pick you apart. The wide players can't beat their man or lines with pace or skill. The full-backs rarely overlap, and I can't recall a midfielder ahead of Salech. It's all quite comfortable inter passing in front of the opposition.
When we have scored since the breaks its when we go gung ho 442 with intent.
I do not expect or want him to change his philosophy, but he needs to adapt as the season progresses. He changes his starters a lot, but he never seems to change. I think he is trying all the combinations at the moment, but i don't believe we have the wide players for his sacrosanct system.

Play with two up front robbo and salech and get in as many crosses and the goals will come attack and shoot on sight!!!!!

Got to believe the players are being told to maintain possession ahead of putting the ball into the box.
Yesterday we had zero shots for their keeper to save.
I think it is a simple instruction to get if we get near the box it has to go in.
I also think Rubin needs to have a break and sit on the bench.
Turnbull also needs to sit on the bench.
I think we need Kellyman in the middle ASAP when fit enough. He has to join Salech in the box, or we need a second striker with Salech. I don't think thats Robinson either, I think it is Ashford or Davies.
I'll also say that the only time Bolton look dangerous yesterday was when we carelessly gave the ball away. A few people guilty of that, Lawler the main culprit. I think Nyakuhwa gave it away for the goal.
Robertson was good yesterday, given his match fitness is not where it needs to be.

The young lad on the wing should of just run down the line instead of passing a poor cross field ball he had fresh legs aswell.
He new soon as he passed it he was wrong .
Then we just didn't close down the shot .
Also so many passes on both sides were very poor .
Bbm is right and its becoming a bit of the norm with shots on goal but why dont they cross the ball into the box .they also come backwards. Surely be more positive and we will score goals .
A very frustrating day and a frustrating watch that was for me personally

Despite our league position, where I think we’ve been blessed by the footballing Gods, ridden our luck and if not for Trott would easily be mid-table, I have lost faith in BBM. Yeah I know it sounds ridiculous and a knee jerk reaction, but allow me to explain why.
The possession based nonsense we are playing with the tippy tappy sideways and backwards passes is a clear coaching instruction from BBM. It’s not the players doing it themselves. They’re instructed to do so. How many times yesterday did Fish and Lawlor both turn and pass back to Trott when it was just as easy to knock it forward? The pair of them even standing on the ball with only a few minutes left. Wtf was that about?!? No urgency to attack. We were looking for a draw with 20 minutes still remaining. I honestly feel sorry for any striker we have. Zero service, zero crosses from out wide. Just left on your own with no bugger within 10 yards of you. I’m confident Salech, being great in the air would devour chances if given the opportunity. Tanner was the only one who stayed out wide and crossed the ball.
It’s not fecking rocket science that you must put the ball into the opposing box. That along with an aggressive press and teams at this level will make enough mistakes and give you chances. Trying to imitate bleedin Man City is the wrong way forward. We don’t have Foden or Silva’s creativity. Not one shot on target all game says to me more about the manager than the team.
Clearly even at half time it wasn’t working. Just how many half times have we had this season with us being either a goal down or at nil nil? We start every frickin game so slow and lethargic. The constant selection of Turnball who offers nothing and Ruben is insistent on proving Bellers correct with woeful performances giving the ball away the moment he receives it. The amount of misplaced passes not just yesterday but each game is tbh pathetic. Yet all BBM can say is we lacked an attacking threat. It’s HIS fecking fault! Yes it was a silly cross field pass that led to the goal, but until that moment I actually thought Nyakuhwa was at least trying to do something with it and beat his man. He showed more attacking intent in the 25 minutes he was on than all the rest of the midfield put together all game. Hopefully he’ll learn from it. Unlike BBM with the repeat yesterday of the sucker punch we suffered against Burton, he’s learnt feck all.

His comments are spot on.
I'm not that disappointed with the defeat because Bolton were expected to win, they are very strong at home.
I'm just disappointed with the attacking play and he's right with his comments.
It's not the end of the world and I do still think we need to improve but I also believe we will.
This is a young squad and they will keep learning.

Agree, we have two of the best strikers in this league and one of them is spending the best part of 2/3rds of the game on the bench every week.
