Cardiff City goalkeeper Nathan Trott has admitted it “would

Cardiff City goalkeeper Nathan Trott has admitted it “would make sense” for him to stay with the Bluebirds beyond this season if the club win promotion back to the Championship.

The 26-year-old joined Cardiff on a season-long loan from FC Copenhagen in August, with the Danish club confirming a purchase option is included in the deal.

Trott has made an impressive start to life in south Wales, keeping six clean sheets in 13 matches and conceding just 11 goals as Brian Barry-Murphy’s side sit top of League One with 22 points.

Speaking to Danish outlet Tipsbladet, Trott said he’s thriving in Cardiff’s environment and hinted he’d like to make the move permanent next summer.

NATHAN TROTT:

“You never know how things will turn out, but if we get promoted, there’s a possibility I could be bought,” he said.

“If everything continues as it is, it would make sense for me to continue in the environment where I have developed so much.

“But we’ll have to see what happens, and I’m not really focused on that right now.”

Trott, whose contract with Copenhagen runs until 2028, fell out of favour last season after starting the campaign as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper.

Reports in Denmark suggest he would prefer not to return to Copenhagen due to a strained relationship with head coach Jacob Neestrup.

For now, though, his focus is firmly on Cardiff’s promotion push and maintaining the form that has made him the standout signing of the season so far.

The Bluebirds take on Bolton Wanderers on Saturday afternoon at the Toughsheet Community Stadium. Kick-off is at 12.30pm.

Don't know how BBM convinced him to spend a season in League One but glad he did.

He definitely won't want another season in this league so it depends on whether we get promoted or not.

If we do then Trott has to be the first signing we make.

yes he's definitely been the best player this season(so far)

I wouldn't want to be searching for a new number 1 next summer and he seems to have settled here so think it's a win win if he stays

He was one for the future and was never played, hardly their fault we've been a strikers graveyard for years.

100% agree! Sadly, whilst Malloy signed him ‘fur the future, Tan saw him as an ‘immediate’ investment and pressure was put on to get rid at the first opportunity. Even sadder, some of our supporters were on his case early on too, and that only exacerbated his time here!

If there’s an agreed fee for Nathan Trott, the ink should be drying in a contract that becomes ‘solid’ the day we regain Championship status! :ayatollah:

How good must their preferred choice of keeper be if he's starting ahead of Trott? Lol
