A forum for all things Cardiff City

Brian Barry-Murphy:
"Alex returned from the United States on the Friday, has had a full week of training.
"He trained on Friday, then trained on Saturday, on the day of the game, and then has had a really good week of training so far, so he's doing really well, progressing in the way that I want from him.
"He's going to train today and then be available like all the rest of the players tomorrow.
"I think he's in a much better condition, physically, and the training that I've seen from him recently has been very positive.
"I think it's fine for the supporters to talk about him in whatever way they want.
"Alex is somebody who I know really, really well from long before he was at this club, so all I want for all the players is to be giving their best to get the chance to play. My duty is then to get them into that condition where they can compete against each other.
"But I have to be very fair and consistent in the way that I judge all the squad once they reach that level, and that's the same for Alex as it is for everybody else.
"If he was in shoes of the other players, he'd want the exact same thing. I made it really clear to Alex what I expect from him, and now he's starting to meet those expectations because I know he can do it.
"If I didn't think you could do it, I wouldn't make those demands of him, like all other players. So I'm very pleased where he is now and hopefully, he could play a big part in that season once he reaches the levels I know he can."

Seems he's finally knuckling down and the reason we haven't seen him feature yet was because of his poor attitude. It's good to see he might finally be involved, as we desperately need him.

Hopefully he’ll be on bench at least.

And there we have it in a nutshell! Alex Robertson is finally under consideration;
because he’s ready!Hooefully, it will stop the unfounded rumours that some like to peddle, but the best line, for me, in that statement is (quote) ‘
I have to be very fair and consistent in the way that I judge all the squad once they reach that level, and that's the same for Alex as it is for everybody else.“
How refreshing is it that a Cardiff City manager selects his team/squad on the basis that to do so, they need to be at the level he requires; so very well done, BBM!

I agree, but it's been roughly 13 weeks since the start of the season, which is crudely the same time as pre-season, excluding the holiday phase.
It's certainly been a fishy one.
Regardless, I think we're screaming out for someone of his quality to switch in with Rubin but also sit back in the Wintle/Turnbull role. I'm in the "he's quality, we need him" camp.
Come on Alex, get in the team and show us what you're capable of!

Good news!
Hopefully he will be back in the squad/line up ASAP.
He can be a massive player for us at this level.

Where’s your evidence of that, then; or should there be a question mark at the end?
I’m not claiming to be more ITK than you on this one, but I can support my previous comment that I have been told by a trustworthy person close to the club that a move to Pompey was never on last summer. They might have claimed interest (always good for ‘
supporter communications’ and the same as we were always ‘
close’ trying to sign Ronaldo every year) but the simple fact is they couldn’t afford him or the fee any more than we could for the Portuguese maestro!
Alex Robertson needs (good for us) a very decent season in League One to elevate himself to ‘
wanted by other clubs’ status, at which point we hope to be back in the Championship, which is our stated aim for the season. At that point, decisions, valuations, offers might be considered, or he will continue to be a Bluebird. It simply wouldn’t make sense for it to be in the mid-season window!

That will be great if he is, a fully fit and motivated Robertson is just what we need, it will be like having a new signing just when we need one.

I don’t think it was, but hey ho!
Calm the tone down, please. Being unable to justify your comment doesn’t give you the right to be rude (again)!

I don't think we will see him Saturday but I'd hope he gets minutes against Wrexham and then arsenal u21,s the following week
I think last season when we had that small run of games with Robertson Turnbull and rubin as the midfield 3 when we went unbeaten for 5 or 6 games was the strongest we were all season

I agree that was an excellent 3; and that was in the championship.

This is a forum it's about opinions, even if you have "facts," its then about how you interpret them.
IMO, this most modern of modern managers hands over fitness and readiness to the medical team, who are cautious.
Issac Davies is wrapped in cotton wool and bubble wrap as they want to protect the player, and you can't fault them for that.
Pompey could have bought him if they wanted, its wasn't an ACL, we buy players on crutches all the time!!!!
He is the second Rubin; he divides opinion. IMO there is nothing i have seen in a city shirt to say he is better than Wintle at anything and Wintle has that little bit of extra speed and muscle. He reminds me of Stuart O'Keefe, neat, tidy, but too small. It will be interesting to see how and where BBM uses him.
I think BBM is giving everyone more than a few games to see where they all fit. Wintle has had his, now Turnbull, wouldn't be surprised to see Chambers pop in the 6 slot if all the center halves are fit. We are short in the old school CM 8 position, but i just don't see Robertson as that.
I just didn't think BBM would be happy with the gaping hole in the middle of the park; perhaps Robertson's lesser mobility than Joel will help plug it.
I give no credence to the want away stories.
