Cardiff City’s Joel Colwill has been named the Carabao Cup Player of the Round for Round Three following his standout performance in their 2-1 victory over Premier League side Burnley.
The academy graduate played a crucial role in securing the win, scoring the opening goal just 30 minutes into the match.
The breakthrough came after the Clarets failed to clear a corner, allowing Callum Chambers to square a cross into Colwill's path, where he tapped in to give the visitors the lead.
Callum Robinson added a second for the Bluebirds just five minutes later, which proved enough to see off Burnley despite Zian Flemming halving the deficit in the second half.
Colwill's goal takes his tally to two in the competition this season, after he also found the net in Round Two against Cheltenham Town.
Cardiff will now face fellow Welsh side Wrexham in Round Four in what is set to be a fierce encounter in North Wales.
After receiving the award, Colwill expressed his delight: “I’m really happy to win it,” he said.
“I think we’ve played really well in the rounds we’ve played in so far, and I’m just grateful to win.
“At Burnley, we were so intense in the way we pressed without the ball, and we played some good stuff with it, so it was a really good team performance.
“The support has been really good from the fans, in my opinion. To go all the way up to Burnley on a Tuesday night is a credit to them. It’s going to be a really exciting game at Wrexham. It’s a Welsh clash, isn’t it, so it should be good.”
