About Bolton Wanderers

Bolton are in their fifth successive season in League One, having been promoted from League Two in 2021.

Last season they finished 8th.

So far this season, they are 7th with 20 points from their 13 games.

Club Connections

Jordi Osei-Tutu was on loan with us in 2020/21, playing seven eight games.

Kion Etete was on loan at Bolton from us last season.

The Opposition's Manager

Steven Schumacher has been Bolton manager since January.

He won this division in 2023, when he was manager of Plymouth. He also won League One manager of the year in that season.

He also had a spell in charge of Stoke.

Opposition Dangerous Players

Amario Cozier-Duberry is on loan from Brighton and in my opinion is too good for this league. He has three goals and four assists in the league this season.

Mason Burstow has seven league goals this season.

Referee

Referee not confirmed yet.

Head To Head - last five meetings

We have won three of the last five meetings, with Bolton winning the other two.

The last game between the two was at CCS in February 2018, a Championship match we won 2-0.

I've voted for a draw and I think that would be a good result.

Bolton have some great players and are very good at home.

They've got the fourth best home record with 14 points from a possible 18.

Won each of their last three home games.

To be fair, we have the second best away record in the league but I would 100% take a draw from this match.

Bolton are one of those midfields that we wont be able to pass around.

Id leave Wintle and Turnbull out. Chambers and Joel C in, even though Joel was poor in Saturday.

Possibly rest Rubin for Robbo, but Rubin is actually doing a job in defence for us; which Robbo wont.

This will be the toughest away game to date this season, i watched them at home the other day when they got 2 late goals, they deserved to win there little black winger will give bagan nightmares.

Agree, Cozier-Duberry is some player and like I said in the match thread post I think he's above League One standard.

Going to be a huge test for Bagan.

Bolton Wanderers defender Max Conway has signed a new deal to remain with the League One club until the end of the 2028-29 season.

The 22-year-old came through the academy and made his debut for Wanderers earlier this season.

Having previously had spells on loan at Buxton, Rochdale, AFC Fylde and Crewe Alexandra, Conway has made 13 appearances for Bolton this term.

"I want to be at this football club. It's all I've ever known, so to get the extra three years after this season is great," he said.

"When I signed for the club it was the year when they were in the Europa League and I think they beat Atletico Madrid, so I've seen quite a lot. We've seen it happen before and that's where I want us and Bolton to go."

Our toughest away fixture so far, in my opinion.

They are very good at home, they've won their last 5 home games and only lost 1 of the last 12 at home.

Luckily we have been good away.

Would take a draw, but hopefully we can nick a win. :ayatollah:

Can't see us getting anything here tbh but let's hope tinkerman changes the system if we are beating battered after 20 minutes of shots Vs us and relying on trott again rather than keeping it the same throughout then anything can happen as we have seen before :bluescarf:

Since dropping their development squad and then resurrecting the ‘reserve team’ model for the 2021/22 season, the graduation of younger talent to senior level has been heavily scrutinised by supporters. But Max Conway’s elevation in recent months, alongside the impact of homegrown players like Sam Inwood, David Abimbola, Ollie Smith and Daeshon Lawrence under Schumacher’s watch has seemingly revived the importance of second-string fixtures.

“That might have been lost,” Schumacher shrugged. “But in my day that was what it was all about.

“That was your opportunity to impress the first-team manager, to try and get in the team and in the squad, so that's how we're trying to see it.

“We haven’t gone about it saying to the players ‘we’re going back to the olden days’ but we have told them it’s another opportunity to play a proper game where we will be watching you.

“A lot of the time those games are more beneficial than a training session, so if you do it properly it keeps everyone up to the right level.

“And as I have said time and time again recently there are going to be times over the winter months when you get injuries and suspensions, when you’re playing Saturday-Tuesday, and the opportunities will be there – but only for players who are ready.”

On Forrester, who has not featured since the 1-0 win against Bristol Rovers on April 5 because of a hamstring injury, Schumacher says it is pleasing to see him getting back to his old ways.

“He is someone we need to be really careful with,” he added. “We want to keep him as strong as possible but we’re seeing improvement in him and he’s back to blocking balls with his head every time someone shoots, which is what he is good at. Mark Hughes was exactly the same when he was a player.

“Will is looking good and doing well.”

BBM:

"We have fresh concerns.

Will Fish has an ongoing knee issue which is getting better. Especially when he's making long passes, he has had some discomfort in his knee but the amount of discomfort is getting less and less. He's making good progress.

Dylan Lawlor has had a good week of training.

I think it's important that he can do certain things we want in training today and then hopefully he can be available for Saturday."

BRIAN BARRY-MURPHY:

"Alex Robertson returned from the United States on the Friday, has had a full week of training.

"He trained on Friday, then trained on Saturday, on the day of the game, and then has had a really good week of training so far, so he's doing really well, progressing in the way that I want from him.”

John McAtee has been ruled out of Wanderers’ clash with Cardiff City after injuring his shoulder during the last-gasp win at Huddersfield Town.

McAtee landed awkwardly as he tried to round Lee Nicholls moments after coming off the bench at the Accu Stadium.

He played through the pain as the Whites came from behind in stoppage time but now faces two to three weeks out of action. The time frame could have been longer but surgery is not required.

Will Forrester got 45 minutes under his belt for the B Team on Tuesday afternoon as the defender steps up his recovery from a hamstring issue.

“The only difference from the Huddersfield game is John McAtee. He hurt his shoulder in the first minute that he came on the pitch,” said Steven Schumacher.

“When he went round the goalie, he landed on his arm and popped his AC joint in his shoulder, so a bit of a painful one for him.
“He's been for scans and they don’t seem to think that it needs surgery or anything like that, so that's good. But he's probably going to be missing for two or three weeks because it's quite painful.

“No other new issues. We're still obviously the same with Thierry (Gale) and Ethan (Erhahon).

“Victor Adeboyejo is doing well. Seven months in now, I spoke to him this morning, he's doing good.
