Team for Saturday?

Thu Oct 16, 2025 6:35 pm

BBM said today that the only new injury problem is Lawlor. Said he'll hopefully be available for Saturday but he's not certain, depends if he got through training today and again tomorrow.

Obviously the long terms injuries of Tanner and King remain.

So what would your team be for Reading?

I'm going to assume Lawlor is not starting and go with:

Trott
Kpakio Fish Osho Bagan
Colwill Colwill Wintle
Davies Robinson Willock

Salech for CR otherwise

Midfield offers nothing with joel and wintle.
That is the main reason we cant break teams down

What would your team be then? That's the point of the thread.

This would be my starting 11 as well, robbo over Salech as when robbo is on a scoring streak like this he has to play

Shame Lawlor injured for Wales again.

Osho is a liability, giving away one/two goals a game.

Trott
Kpakio Fish Chambers Bagan
Colwill Colwill Wintle
Kellyman Robinson Willock

Wintle is my concern for a solid promotion push.

I don't see BBM taking him out of the team, but I would like to see Chambers there for a run. Even NG. Someone more aggressive in the tackle and press than Wintle.

I'd flip Davies and Willock, also. Willock has looked good coming in off the right and he's less likely to blaze one over the bar (like he does alot off the left). Davies also looks better on the left, for me.

Won't happen, but:

Trott
Kpakio Fish Osho Bagan
Colwill Colwill Chambers
Willock Salech Davies

I always say we start with 10 men when Wintle plays, nothing so far has changed my mind on that, definitely push Chambers into that roll and Osho who is quality (few crucial mistakes) but he is still the best ball playing CB we have in my humble opinion.

Personally I think Wintle has been excellent this season and the jury’s still out on Osho for me, I’d pick Lawlor every game if he was fit.

Would love Turnbull to show how good he is on a consistent basis but he’s not done that yet.

Tomorrow I’d go….

Trott
Kpakio Fish Chambers Bagan
Wintle Colwill Colwill
Willock Salech/ Robinson Davies

Trot

Re: Team for Saturday?

Trott
Osho Fish Chambers Bagan
Kellyman R Colwill Wintle Davies
Robinson Salech

442 - try Osho at fullback and get Chambers in at centreback.

After the 2 front men impacted the 2nd half against Orient, play them together up top, CR47 dropping slightly behind if required.

The shouts for Chambers over Wintle are insane, he is nowhere near mobile enough to play as a single pivot

But can tackle/win a header/doesnt get over run.

Wintle when we're on top is excellent. When up against it and pressed is shite.

Definitely a 442 with Salech and Robinson playing off him... 1 uptop only encourages teams to sit back and contain lone striker defence dealing with 2 forwards is far harder than one thats for sure..

But leaves our midfield a bit thin on the ground.

1 player!! If only one up front that leaves their defenders opportunity to push up as Salech usually 40yrds from goal facing his own goal? Defenders Can always push up 10yrds
To support midfield...think playing at home you need to change way you play ..with exception of one game we've struggled to get lone striker into game.... football is about adaptation to suit game/opponent we simply play one way from beginning to end with subs at a set time 60 to 70 minutes.... any coach worth his salt will see this when analysing city hence why we struggle at home.

You are spot on. Has to be 442 with CR47 and Salech causing havoc.
What are we scared of? We're at home, its League 1, not the bloody championship!

We need to be more confident and mix the tactics up, particularly at home.

I just don't get this caution with weaker teams in this division. BBM talks the team up - that's great, play 2 strikers and see how we go.

Not saying you’re wrong but wouldn’t an experienced coach like bbm spot this if it was that easy. There aren’t many teams that play 442 these days.

Can't see us starting with a 442 to be honest.

Maybe if we're chasing the game he'll throw an extra striker on.

But there's a reason so few teams play 442 anymore. The majority of teams have three in central midfield so we'd be overrun with 3 v 2.

If we want to play with both Robinson and Salech then the best option would be 352 in my opinion.

Spot on. 442 simply isn't happening nowadays. It's obscolete in todays game.

Bbm maybe experienced coach behind scenes but not as a 1st team coach a huge difference in what roles are.....
Not many teams play 442 is right but then why do bbm insist on playing the ball wide quickly only to either not play ball into middle for Salech or mess about with it 40yrds out? 442 many not be modern way but other formation is not getting best out of team under bbm tactics did say Salech uptop with Robinson playing off him that can be interpreted as 451 but as more envisis on attack not playing game management football 40yrds out as we generally do... can anyone honestly say we are getting best out salech not playing 442?

I don't think we are getting the best from Salech in that slightly isolated position - not enough quality balls being played in to him, particularly good crosses to the far post.

It's all well and good being aggressive with a high press, but we need to be more productive in final third and take more of those chances.

Your Final point is our problem even best strikers only score from so many chances but usually get more than 3 chances a game we expect Salech to score mostly from 1 or 2 chances..... he as shown time & time again he scores given the opportunity and decent cross something we are reluctant to do as our press stops 40yrds out...... not saying strict 442 but a plan b or c even! And try to make tactical subs before 60mins if its required.
