RUSSELL ‘JACK’ MARTIN SACKED!

Scottish Premiership side Rangers have sacked head coach Russell Martin after 123 days in charge.

It follows a 1-1 draw at Falkirk in the Scottish Premiership, leaving Rangers with just one win in their first seven league games, matching the club's worst-ever start at this stage of a season.

Martin required a police escort away from Falkirk's stadium as Rangers fans surrounded the team's bus following a result that left Rangers in eighth spot, 11 points behind leaders Hearts and nine adrift of rivals Celtic.

"Rangers Football Club confirms that it has parted company with head coach, Russell Martin," a statement read.

"While all transition periods require some time, results have not met the club's expectations.

"Assistant head coach, Matt Gill, and first-team coach, Mike Williamson, will also be departing.

"Russell and his staff have worked exceptionally hard throughout their time at the club. We thank them for their efforts and wish them well for the future.”

Rangers fans blocked the team bus outside the ground after the away side drew against Falkirk, adding more pressure to Russell Martin as the Rangers manager was escorted out of the ground.

As much as I dislike him (primarily because his Swansea teams battered us) I do feel he’s been hard done by here.

Rangers fans didn’t give him the time of day from the off; thinking they’re some European giant that could attract better. In reality they’re a mid table Championship side who I hope continue to struggle.

Would love Hearts to win the league this year and bring both Glasgow clubs back down to earth.

I’m astonished he even got the job, his previous managerial posts were mediocre at best. I don’t know one Rangers Fan who wanted him and I don’t know one who didn’t want him sacked. He is a clown.

they ain't exactly world beaters but you'd expect rangers to be at least top 3 even at this stage of the season

Unless he had them top 2 then other other position won't be acceptable by the vast majority of Rangers fans.

European giant? Very few Rangers fans think that, we’re a Euro league level team, on a good day, which would be mid level premier

How is it ridiculous? No more ridiculous than your assumption that they're Premier league teams. Where's your evidence for that. Just because they get to play in European competitions doesn't make them Premier League teams, if that's the case so are TNS.

Why would watching them make any difference to my opinion? They play shit teams in a shit league & still can't beat them, therefore they are shit. It's a 2 horse race yet somehow Rangers are in 8th, if it wasn't so sad it would be laughable. I wouldn't watch Scottish football if it was the only football on tv, thankfully it's not & there's plenty of other games to watch.

I lived in Scotland for a while when I was younger & I've seen how delusional their fans are, two tribes indeed.

Maybe they were good 40-50 years ago but now they're just not, that's just the way it is & saying that they're Championship at best is being kind to them.

This is true. They have to pay qualifying rounds for the champions league even if they win their Prem.

It was just a matter of time - took the Rangers job when Leicester wanted him before this season started .
