The long throw in.

Sun Oct 05, 2025 7:08 pm

Seem to be making a comeback.

Ironically we spent years being about the only club in the league who used the long throw constantly (who can forget Gunnarsson and his towels on each side of the pitch?) but now that everyone else is doing it we don't use it any more.

Our tactics at throw ins seem to be to throw it straight to the opposition.

Certainly is making a come back; even in the Premier League!

It’s a useful tool to have in your arsenal, and we have used it to great effect in the past; this best of all being Andy Legg, who provided the supply of some great goals from the touchline! :ayatollah:

I would love to see the return of strike partnerships, I think football as a whole has got worse to watch

You have to have the players who can do it. We were very fortunate to have Patterson as well as Gunnarson who could take a really long throw.

Mind you I couldnt see BBM using it even if we had someone with that type of throw.

Sean Morrison had a great long throw but we really needed him on the end of it rather than throwing it!

Yes I remember. But as you rightly point out he was needed up front so we saw very little of his throws. Might have seen a bit more of them if we had had a centre forward who could head a ball but Zahore was useless in that department and Madine, though not a bad header, didnt play a great deal anyway as he was useless in virtually every other departments
