Dylan Lawlor, Ronan Kpakio, Joel Colwill, Alex Robertson, Cian Ashford, Dak Mafico, Tanatswa Nyakuhwa and Luey Giles are all away on international duty.

Ashford would have been suspended anyway because of his red card in the win at Exeter.

For me I would pick every Squad player who has hardly played including Alex Robertson

They should beat Newport without going in to 2nd gear and we don’t need injuries from this game:

Presume Michael Reindorf won't be allowed to play for them? Not that it would make much difference. He's having another poor loan. Not up to it.

I’m going I thought we’d have sold a few more seen as been a while since we’ve played them. We should have enough to beat them despite the amount of players away on international duty

Former Wales striker Iwan Roberts says "you have to start worrying" for David Hughes' future at Newport County as the Exiles' League Two struggles go on.

Newport slipped to the bottom of the table after defeat by Swindon Town on Saturday continued their dreadful run of form.

County fans aimed critical chants in the direction of chairman and owner Huw Jenkins during the Swindon loss, Newport's 10th in their past 11 games in all competitions.

Newport are back in action on Tuesday when they make the short trip to Cardiff City in the EFL Trophy (19:45 BST), before potentially key league games at 20th-placed Accrington Stanley next Saturday and at home to Cheltenham, who are 22nd, seven days later.

Roberts says he has concerns over the job security of Hughes, who left his role in Manchester United's academy in May to take the reins at Newport.

"Bottom of League two, five points from 11 games, one point in their last nine games, one win from their last 20 in League Two with no wins in 11 at Rodney Parade," Roberts told BBC Radio Cymru.

"They've got the worst defensive record in League Two and they've got two huge games coming up against Accrington Stanley away and then Cheltenham at Rodney Parade in two weeks' time.

"But you have to start worrying for Dave Hughes' job as Newport County manager."

Re: LATEST NEWS " CARDIFF CITY v NEWPORT COUNTY " MATCH THRE

Tue Oct 07, 2025 6:04 am

Cardiff City boss Brian Barry-Murphy has criticised the scheduling of Tuesday's Welsh derby encounter with Newport County in the EFL Trophy (19:45 BST).

The Bluebirds will be without a host of players for the group stage game because it falls during an international window.
Dylan Lawlor, Ronan Kpakio, Isaak Davies and Joel and Rubin Colwill are with Wales for Thursday's friendly against England and next Monday's World Cup qualifier against Belgium in Cardiff.

Dakarai Mafico, Tanatswa Nyakuhwa and Luey Giles are away with the Wales Under-21 squad – as is Cian Ashford, though he is suspended for the Newport game anyway - while Alex Robertson has been called up by Australia for friendlies against Canada and the USA.

"It is a unique situation. I have a lot of experience of this competition and I have been a big advocate of the benefits of it," Cardiff head coach Barry-Murphy said.

"But I would say for me it doesn't make any sense that we are playing this game when the players who really would benefit from it – Dak Mafico, Tanatswa Nyakuhwa – are on international duty.

"Even the players below that in the [Cardiff] under-21s… we have loads of players with Wales Under-19s and Under-18s who cannot play. We have to assess who we have available and pick a team."

Cardiff began their EFL Trophy campaign with a 1-0 win at Exeter City last month, when Lawlor, Giles, Mafico, Nyakuhwa and Davies all started and Kpakio and Ashford featured as substitutes.

Perrett chases a really nice pass through the middle of the Newport defecnce.

Can't stop it running out to Wright.

Good work from Parfitt

Comes across to snuff out a through-ball for Opoku.

Not quite happening for Cardiff yet

Chambers curls a ball in looking for Salech.

Gets caught under his feet and Newport clear.

Re: MATCH THREAD: “ CARDIFF CITY v NEWPORT COUNTY " MATCH TH

Tue Oct 07, 2025 7:09 pm

Newport sub

Ogunneye is making way for Thomas.

Looked to have been hurt going in for a challenge and it's an early blow for Newport.

Re: MATCH THREAD: “ CARDIFF CITY v NEWPORT COUNTY " MATCH TH

Tue Oct 07, 2025 7:11 pm

Unlucky for Parfitt

Hits the gas and produces a really good run down the left.

Looks to get a cross away, but it's blocked.

Think it's come off him, however, as the decision is a goal kick.
