BBM: Things to learn but pleased with attacking

Sat Oct 04, 2025 6:01 pm

Brian Barry-Murphy:

“I think if that is a sign of things to come at the Cardiff City Stadium. It's not going to be a dull ride.

“I felt strongly in the first half that we misinterpreted what was needed from the game. We played a lot of short passes close to our goal and put ourselves under a lot of pressure. It was pretty high risk stuff from us when it didn’t need to be.

“I would say the overriding feeling for myself is one of immense pride for the players in terms of the second half.

“You saw us at our best and most dangerous when we flooded forward and really freed ourselves up and attacked in wide areas. Callum Robinson and Yousef [Salech] became so dangerous as we know they are.

“There’s a lot of things we can learn from the first and second half defensively as a team, but also we take a lot of positives from how we attacked.

“Dylan Lawlor is chuffed [with the goal]. I think he found it a really difficult game. You saw how much pressure he came under in terms of the physicality of Leyton Orient and he’ll learn a lot from the defensive side of the game.

“His goal was symbolic of how he plays the game, no fear and approach, stepping forward right to the edge of the box and lucky for us, produce a good finish.

“He’s a brilliant lad and we’ve seen signs of brilliance in his play. The attacking side for him is natural. He’s a centre back who can break through opposition pressure, which we needed today.

“You’re looking for signs of what the team’s going to be like as we grow.

“I like the way we attacked and flooded forward in front of the Canton End. It was jammed, the supporters were begging for action they didn’t see in the first half and I was glad we gave it to them in the second half.

“I’ll be looking at the character of the players and the courage. A win today and if we win on Tuesday, then we’ve won four out of the last five games.

"For me, It's important that the players can separate themselves from that and focus on just playing the game."

Lets get Warnock down there for a few sessions on playing safe when you need to play safe and not try a flick or a blind pass hoping someone will be there in our third of the pitch.

Sometimes a hoof is needed. Robbo got a massive cheer for doing that towards the end of the game.

I am joking about Warnock, but BBM needs to look at his messaging if they thought that was the game plan.

You got it wrong today and nearly paid the price.

But like he said, if we win on Tuesday then it's four wins in the last five.

I don't mind the changes, that's what a squad is all about. Ashford and Ng were unavailable so it's only three changes he decided to make. Can't play the same team in every game or they'd be burnt out and he'd be criticised for that.

Bottom line is we are 3rd in the league after 11 games. We won today.

There were people on here who said we'd get relegated again.

We are doing fine.

I agree and ultimately you are judged by results. Our attacking play was sharp and BBM made 4 subs when we went 2 v 3 down and that changed the game with Salech and Robinson up front together. I think we also have to keep in mind that this team is young and there is huge pressure and expectation on them that we should win every game at home. BBM can't control everything.

I am cool with learning, as long as he does.

My main issue with bbm was the same with riza tickerman doesn't know what is best 11 is y
This is inexperince I've said 10 12 games I would access somethings I like but the most glaring is he only has one plan it either works or other managers have worked out how to beat his system I'd like him to pick his best 11 each game fish lawlor have been the most productive partnership at the back why change it? This is just my opinion nobody else's don't really care it u like or don't ill say things how I see them

I've no doubt that BBM knows his best 11, problem is with such a small squad he has no choice other than pick players who are not carrying injuries.

Agreed. Smaller squad, plus management of players with previous injury issues (Davies/Kellyman/NG), players with excessive games due to international inclusion (Lawlor/Kpakio/Joel) I think the whole Tinkerman claims around BBM are way off target.

Honestly, I've said before, don't think this came about by anything that a sheer freakish luck of planets aligning but BBM is looking like the real deal and could quite possibly end up being the best manager we've had in my lifetime (Eddie May was manager when I started supporting)

People who say bbm has no plan b are wrong, go back and watch the extended highlights again and you can clearly see plan b put into action when we go 3-2 down

BBM makes a triple change goes to a 4-4-2 drops rubin back into the deeper role to clearly get him more of the ball and he is instrumental in both the 3rd and 4th goals

Now yes bbm is set in his ways on how he likes to play I agree, but yesterday he showed he's is willing to adapt when things are not working

He's still a young manager finding his way with a squad of mostly kids who are starting there own journeys in men's football, let's give them time because let's be honest give me yesterdays heart palpatation inducing performance over the absolute shit we've been served up in the last 2 seasons

BBM is not a young manager. He is the same age as Arne Slot and Eddie Howe and 4 years older than Arteta.

He's 47 which is still pretty young as managers go and this is only his second job as an efl manager so definitely inexperienced and still finding his feet, people just need a bit of patience as he will get us to where we want to be
