Cardiff City release 2025/26 squad photo as everyone spots the same thingThe Bluebirds have unveiled their squad photo for the season but there is one glaring omission
By Glen WilliamsOnly two goalkeepers – Nathan Trott and academy graduate Matt Turner – were pictured alongside the rest of Brian Barry-Murphy’s first-team group. Missing entirely was Jak Alnwick, who many supporters now believe has no future at the club.
The 32-year-old was a key figure last season, even captaining the Bluebirds on several occasions in the absence of Aaron Ramsey and Joe Ralls, and he triggered a one-year contract extension to remain in south Wales until the summer of 2026.
Even in last month’s Vertu Trophy tie at Exeter City, when Trott was rested, Barry-Murphy handed the gloves to uncapped teenager Dan Higgs rather than turning to the experienced shot-stopper.
Supporters were quick to react on social media after the photo was released, with many suggesting the omission confirmed suspicions that Alnwick had been pushed to the periphery.
"
Alnwick a goner then?" one commented. "
Alnwick must be leaving the club then," said another.
"
Feel sorry for Alnwick, completely shut off," said City fan Matt on X.
Barry-Murphy was asked last month whether Alnwick was injured and gave a pointedly short reply: “
Yeah, he is fit.” When pressed further on why he wasn’t being selected, the head coach simply added: “
No.”
That silence has left fans reading between the lines. While Alnwick technically remains a Cardiff player for another nine months, it seems inconceivable that he won't be a candidate for a potential January exit. Sign up to our daily newsletter here.
By contrast, Alex Robertson, a player who is yet to feature this season, is included in the shot, which will be encouraging for supporters, many of whom believe the midfielder will flourish in this new-look side with the style of play implemented by Barry-Murphy.
