TODAY’S ATTENDANCE (v Bradford City @ home)

Sat Sep 20, 2025 7:39 pm

Today’s attendance was 22,132 includes 2,087 away fans

That’s a decent turnout for both clubs, to be fair!

To be honest, it looked more than that from Canton - especially with the Family Stand appearing more busy than usual.

Poor i though,
people had purchased tickets before the rain, and set themselves on the biggest game of the season top of the table does not get a higher value game,
and we still could not reach 23,000 with 2,500 bradford.

No issue with our season ticket prices they are great but its almost £30 for an adult to go in the Canton stand by the time you add in the "booking fee". Irrespective of what other clubs are charging that ain't cheap. Go back 25 years and it was around a fiver and no f*****g booking fee. Even allowing for inflation its over twice the price it used to be. With that in mind and especially with the weather, to get 22,000 for a 3rd Division game is not poor in my opinion.

I’m really not sure what people, including you on this occasion, want/expect from others?

Our club has gone through the mill over the last few seasons, certainly since the miracle performed by the Wizard Warnock, and crowds have steadily fallen off, with the majority of ‘blame’ being heaped (rightly so, IMHO) on Tan Sri Vincent Tan for his lack of investment and disinterest in taking the club forward

We know that in reality it is a mix of reasons, including supporter disenchantment with Tan himself, our lack of progress, our dire (mainly losing) style of play, and our slow but eventually inevitable relegation to League One with no real ‘plan’ for the future!

Somewhat surprisingly, Season Ticket sales were somewhat steady, as the hardcore of support decided they wanted to stay with their club (not Tan’s) rather than walking away

After lots of dithering and seeming indecision, the club’s ’committee’ eventually decided to employ a new manager/head coach call Brian Barry-Murphy. It was IMHO 100% a gamble led by a number of factors, including a desperate desire to hugely cut the budget, and the rhetoric of a renowned coaches of youth in said Brian Barry-Murphy

So far, it has proven to be an inspired appointment, as BBM has used a large mix of youth at the club with a sprinkling of experience, and a few very well appointed ‘loan’ deals. The club has inadvertently struck gold and the season (so far) has been incredible; certainly better than had any right to expect!

I’m not sure what the final Season Ticket sales were (media outlets suggest in excess of 13,000), which means when you take a way 2000+ away supporters, we had c.8,000 ‘walk ups’ (pre-purchased or on the day) coming into the CCS

I ask ‘under what level of expectation should we expect larger crowds than that after a very poor few seasons, relegation, and seeming disinterest and disengagement from our owner/benefactor?

I really don’t see it! We are doing well, the team are (Saturday excepted) doing very well, we are highly encouraged by our new manager/head coach, and our home-grown youngsters have stepped into the breach with aplomb

We all have dreams/expectations at the start of any season (last year we were ‘expecting top 6 or higher), but It’s surely more than we could genuinely expected?l right now?

We all hope it continues, and if it does, we should expect the additional ‘walk ups’ that our team form/play/position deserves; but having been so let down, that may well take a little more time/success/convincing to see! :ayatollah:

The irony then, maybe now, is to question whether the ‘stay always’ up until now, have done so because of the state of the club (nee Tan) or the poor form and performances of the team over a few seasons?’

The truth is it’s probably a mix of the two, but the sure thing for me, is that more than we had any right to ‘expect

Always makes me chuckle when they say 2200 is a bad crowd in the 1st division.. being a fan since the early 80s when 6000 was massive

Old Bob Bank at times never mind individual seat used to be able to have your own row of seats - crowd was often 3-4k
