OPINION FROM THE STAND: MUST DO BETTER!

Sat Sep 20, 2025 3:57 pm

A day that early season form promised would be good was soon unravelled by a slick, forward passing Bradford City team, who simply taught the Bluebirds a lesson in passing and forward momentum

Both teams started brightly with an even spread of opportunities to move forward and some decent defending at the other end(s)

But for me, the game turned at around the 15 minute mark, when Bradford scored the opener with a neat move and a striking finish that would grace the Premier League. Simply outstanding!

After that, we tried to get back into it, but I felt we lost our composure and for all our efforts, we assisted in our own downfall by giving the ball away far too freely, and it put us under immense pressure far too often

Rubin Colwill tried to be at the heart of our attacks, but even he was seemingly out of touch with his game

When it’s all going against you, the little things can make or break your day, and yet another poor display by a referee and his officials conspired to see an offside ignored and a penalty awarded to Bradford, after Osho upended one of theirs in the box

A very well taken penalty saw Bradford increase their lead to two and we were under the fish for the rest of the first half

HALF-TIME SCORE: CARDIFF CITY BRADFORD CITY (40+3 mins)

Those around me, felt BBM had some serious talking to do at half-time, and changes needed to be made; particularly replacing Cian Ashford, who has now been out of sorts for some time. However, the only change came with Perry Ng replacing Ronan Kpakio

We needed a fast start to the half and we could see there was a little more effort, however, Bradford conspired to further inflict damage and another slick move saw a shot that looked to me that it was going wide, deflect off a Bluebird defender and fly into the net for 0-3

At this point, we were on a downer and not playing well, so BBM made three more changes, brining on Robinson, Joel Colwill, and Isaak Davies, and our forward play improved significantly, with more balls actually getting into the opposition area, where the Bluebirds were rewarded with a goal from Callum Robinson (1-3)

We were a lot brighter after that and had chances to score more, but Bradford were equally as dangerous and with 8 minutes of added time, the game petered out for a well deserved win for Bradford City and the loss of our unbeaten record in League One

Disappointing result to say the least, but we still have a game in hand and we move on to the next one. It was never going to be as easy as some seemed to think! :ayatollah:

FINAL SCORE: CARDIFF CITY BRADFORD CITY (90+8 mins)

I have felt from thestart our squad is not street wise.

We have been bullied in some of these games and today was no exception. If we had kept the like of Goutas and Meite I just feel we would have that streetwise stuff to see us through and back in the Championship.

Meite is never an option to improve us.

Ashford was so poor, his passing was terrible. When you looked at their forward midfielders today we have to get more production out of our wingers. The header chance for Ashford on the first half was not difficult

I don’t really see it as being bullied today. It was a tough game, and Bradford were outstanding from back to front, but still on another day it could have been a different game. Not taking anything away from Bradford, but didn’t bully in my opinion.

Not need to panic. Good learning exercise for our youngsters, onwards and upwards.

Plymouth, Barnsley, Luton lost, Huddersfield and dropped points. You not going to get it all your own way in this league.

BBM needs to adapt to having no wingers. We have 4 defenders, 5 midfielders, and a target man. Little pace or attacking intent, all are happy to pass rather than shoot. But I guess that's the system.

We need Davies to somehow get back to match robustness.

Yes I agree.

I'm a big fan of BBM but I was surprised first of all that Ashford started after recent poor performances and a petulant red card on Tuesday, and second that he wasn't hooked at half time.

Yeah Meite and Goutas. Both of them a lot stronger than what we have and they would have stood up to the bullying a lot more than what we have.

Do yourself a favour and go to bed.

I'll defend you a bit. We are lacking a Goutas sort of figure. But as for the man himself, it was obvious he'd leave when Bulut did. Only signed for us because of Bulut.

Not so sure about Meite.

I do think we really missed Lawlor today.

What bullying?

Why is it bullying when we are outplayed?

They pushed us off the ball too easily. Thats getting stuck into us. That's bullying.

Common theme when we don’t play well.

We created enough chances to get something, the difference is they took theirs. They also could have had more but we needed to take theirs chances we made, and we didn’t.

Some good saves by their keeper, some poor finishing from our players or just unfortunate not to be a few centimetres either way to beat the keeper

We had, chances. We need to start taking them

What I found frustrating this afternoon, and not for the first time this season, despite our successful start, is that we do not get the ball across quick enough for Salech to have any chance. We seem to mess about with short passes on both wings, instead of whipping the ball across first time. Salech must be extremely frustrated.
We were beaten by a better team today, who seemed to want it more. They closed us down very well, but they were allowed to get away with some over vigorous tackles and time wasting from the start, by a very poor referee.
