BBM says Vincent Tan wants to see more goals

Thu Sep 18, 2025 10:38 am

Brian Barry-Murphy:

"I speak to the owner before and after every game. He's a tough boss.

He's enjoying the games but he wants more, which we all do.

He always wants more goals and less conceded which is obviously my job. If I do it well enough then he'll be happy and if I don't then he won't.

I hope he's enjoying what he's seeing.

I think he has been really excited by what he's seen from the first day of the season, really.

He may not have been aware of the full potential of these players – but most people wouldn't until you see them play. Like all good young players, once you start playing and improving, it can be a very exciting journey for us all.

I would hope to see him here soon."

I give up with Tan . We are doing really well and he talks crap about more goals. Just shut up and let the manager get on with it.

With zero spent in the transfer window and the amount of players shipped out tan should be grateful of the situation we’re in

'more goals and less conceded' we have the best goal difference in the whole league and we have conceded just (penalties) twice in 7 games...

in all fairness I am hoping we score more away from home.

Just don’t interfere. Get on with your other business instruments. Let BBM do his job. . .

He's probably annoyed that Trott hasn't even had a shot yet.

Not sure there is much more they can do to concede less.

I don't see an issue with this.

I definitely think we need to create more chances; regardless of our great start.

At the time of writing...

- We are 4th in 'goals per match', averaging 1.7. Bradford. Huddersfield and Barnsley are above us.
- We are top for average possession with 61.3%

Sounds good.

...

- Then 12th for xG (love it or hate it)
- 8th for Shots on target per match
- 11th for Big chances created

Some of the above are subjective, but Barnsley, Huddersfield and Bradford tend to be trending up the top 3 for all of these, also.

- Accurate crosses per match, we're 9th with 4.7
- Touches in opposition box, we're 8th.
- Corners we are 17th.

Earlier/quicker balls into the box or improved quality into the box is the next level for me. Then old VT may get what he needs. Fine tuning though.

There isn't.

- 1st for goals conceded with 0.3
- 1st for clean sheets with 5
- 22nd in xG Conceded

At the time of writing. The defence is operating at Champions level over the first 6 weeks or so.

Tan was probably referring to the goalies

I think asking for ‘more goals’ is a reasonable ask, as our possession stats show we have a lot of the ball, whilst our shot targets show we don’t actually have that many considering said possession

The ‘concede less goals’ bit is a surely piss-take? Two penalties is hardly indicative of a poor defence so far this season, is it?

Overall, we simply have to be happy with how this season has started, and long may it continue! :ayatollah:

I would take a 1-0 win every game if it gets us to our goal of promotion

I think BBM is talking in general terms here rather than Tan giving specific instruction. Just a generalised throw-away comment nothing worth digging into. :bluebird:

Yes there is a context to what was said but he as a point about goals especially away from home as bbm tactics are not to concede or if score 1st shut up shop like @ Exeter ... but less hear from tan the better. .

Agree with you both.
Many on here have been crying out for more crosses and shots on target, which we all want and they will come. Just because Tan said it don’t make it wrong this one time.
Everything is going well at the moment, and we should strive to continuously improve why wouldn’t we? I’m sure the manager wants more goals as well.

Can anyone here honestly say they don’t want us to score more goals??

Yeah we could certainly do with a few more goals. Maybe BBM asked him if there was anything the team could do better & the only thing he could think of was "score more goals?". Going to give him a pass this time as I'm sure he's more than happy with out position given the lack of incomings.

Just because he might be a miserable git most of the time doesn't mean he can't be funny sometimes but not saying anything was probably his best bet.

f*cking idiot.

Every time he opens his mouth he proves that he's learned nothing in all the years he's been involved in football.

He's absolutely delighted as it shows his fascination with youngsters in 1st team is paying dividends.. goals probably referred to away games but still should keep quiet safer for all concerned..

I want him gone as much as the vast majority of fans, but this is a bit silly to get worked up over.

He has been taken to town for comments that, read in a different light or said clearer wouldn’t have caused a stir.

This isn’t a quote, it’s a quote of what BBM has been told. I also want to see us score more goals and concede less, it’s kind of a simple request really.

It's been said consistently we need to put ball in area more for Salech corners are generally poor we tend to play in and around penalty area not in it! Sound familiar well it should its a man c trait ......4 yrs with Pep as rubbed of on him....
