Kellyman substitution was planned

Tue Sep 16, 2025 10:28 pm

It was planned for Omari Kellyman to only play 30/35 minutes tonight to manage his fitness.

I did find it strange at the time because he didn't seem injured.

But I don't really understand why he started instead of bringing him on after 60 minutes.

I thought as much.
How did he play?

I'm assuming it was because BBM wanted Kellyman to play no more than 35 minutes and without being able to predict the amount of added injury time to know when the game would finish, BBM thought it would be safer to start him so he could bring him off at exactly 35 minutes.

If BBM brought him on at 60 minutes and there was 15 minutes injury time, that would total 45 minutes and may have been too much. I think BBM wanted to avoid the risk of that, so I can understand why he did it.

It could be down to the starting 11 rules for the competition Looking at the staring 11
- Both NG and Robinson over 40 Games
- Lawlor likely to start on Saturday
- Kellyman from category A academy

Turnball has only played 39 games

Not look to deeply into this and sure that some one will prove my assumption incorrect

While people are talking about early substitutions did anyone else see that Robbie Savage manager of Forest Green Rovers made 4 substitutions in the first 5 minutes to get around the 4 player rule? Makes a mockery of the whole thing in my opinion but I guess rules are there to be bent to some.

Thoughts?

I’d never thought of that. That does make a mockery of it.

Can't blame Savage for doing that. It's a way of complying with the rules but still playing the players he wanted to.

Only risk with that is if you get a couple of injuries or a red card then it can backfire.
