This picture was taken on the 5/3/1921 at the FA cup match between Cardiff Vs Chelsea.
Cardiff won 1 : 0
It was taken during the construction of the Canton Stand at Ninian Park and some fans decided to have a grandstand view.
50,000 fans attended the match .

The guy that worries me is at the bottom left of the picture. He doesn't appear to be wearing a "safety cap". What if one of those on the stand roof was to fall on him? Everyone else would probably pass Health & Safety!!

It was right that the safety rules were brought in, but it's great seeing these pictures.
Obviously me doing the match threads this season has meant me doing more research and it's great to see even the smaller clubs getting huge crowds back in the day.

1921 was the first season my old man had what was called a ‘ground ticket’ which was a season ticket for a boy.He was 9, and lived in the Grange, he went with his older brother and his dad, our grandfather.
He passed away 19 years ago, but I still recall him reliving a cup game v Spurs where as a boy he was passed over men’s heads to sit on the ground so to avoid crushing in the crowd.
A Cardiff man to his bones.
