EFL in talks to extend Championship play-offs to six teams, adding an eliminator round. It would reduce dead rubbers, increase chances of golden ticket. Needs FA Board approval…& PL doesn’t like it

Hope this doesn't happen.

The play-offs are perfect as they are in terms of entertainment, no need to change it.

You could have a team finishing 8th and get promoted which would be ridiculous.

It'll happen due to additional finances and clubs aren't going to say no, are they?

It will completely devalue it though in my opinion; just like this next world cup which is 48, up SIXTEEN teams.


Having said that though, I was against the champions league changes and I enjoyed last years for the first time in a while.

Hope this doesn't happen.

Can currently have a team finishing 6th and getting promoted.

Main point for me is that the team finishing 3rd or 4th will have to wait for the eliminator game so arguably the 5th to 8th teams will be fresher.

They really to make it so that there is a distinct advantage to finishing higher.

The only change i would make is to drop the 2 legs, the 1st leg is a waste of time .... 3rd should play 6th at home and 4th play 5th at home

Here's an idea for the EFL, how about just making it every team is in the play offs & they all have to play each other, top 3 go up & bottom 3 go down.

I am a genius & the EFL knows no bounds of ridiculousness.

How about top two in championship play bottom 2 in in premiership winners go or stay in Premiership save this yo-yo effect every year

I was always against the play-offs, but can see the attraction for the EFL and the media companies

Let it be. It’s already (often) overly harsh on the tram in third, and maybe a better option would be a ‘play-off’ between the long finalist and the Premier League team finishing third from bottom?

Why don't they copy League 2
1st - Automatic Promotion
2nd - Automatic Promotion
3rd - Automatic Promotion
---
4th - Play Offs
5th - Play Offs
6th - Play Offs
7th - Play Offs

Then just add a relegation spot in the Premier League to level out the teams.
This would be the least chaotic change

Another crazy idea some fans are mentioning is for a team in the championship face a premier league team and the winner goes up and loser goes down. This would be an interesting scenario because you would never think about a team from 2 divisions facing each other.

Maybe the added relegation spot in the Premier League could be a spot where the winner of the play-off faces the team in the final spot for a chance to get promoted.

Because the Premier League clubs would have to approve it and they're not going to vote for an extra team to get relegated.
