"We just have to be mindful of where he is coming from," the head coach added. "He has been training with Chelsea, but with a group of players who were identified as going out on loan. So that would have been in smaller groups.
"He hasn't really trained with a team for a period and his last competitive game was a long time ago, so while he is a player of the highest potential, we have to be patient in terms of how hard to push him, to give him a chance to acclimatise.
Barry-Murphy joked that he had "sought permission" from Chelsea boss - and his former Manchester City colleague - Enzo Maresca over the signing of the talented England youth international and said the Italian was "very supportive" of the move.
The teenager is in line to make his debut this weekend against Stockport County and so, too, is Gabriel Osho, the centre-back who was captured on a permanent deal before the international break.
"They will both be available and have both settled in really well," he said. "There are slight differences, Gabriel has been playing in France with Auxerre at the start of their season, so has had some game action.
