New player Training with First Team:

Sat Sep 06, 2025 1:10 pm

I’ve always said , when some fans slammed me On here, age means NOTHING if your good enough, your good enough :bluebird: :bluebird: :bluebird:

16-year-old Robert Tankiewicz in Cardiff training with first team in recent weeks after his own rise within the youth ranks in recent weeks.

Tankiewicz last month grabbed the attention of Cardiff fans after the 16-year-old starred in the Bluebirds' U21s win over Crewe.

Tankiewicz was playing five years below the age bracket, but scored twice in the Bluebirds' 3-0 triumph over the Railwaymen.

The Cardiff academy star, who has been with the club since U9s, has captained Wales at age-grade level and looks a top prospect in that attacking midfield role.

And since then it looks as though he has received a promotion, having been pictured with the first-teamers at The Vale last week.

Given it's the international break, and City have fallen foul to a number of first-team injuries at the start of the season, it might be that Barry-Murphy's staff needed numbers to fill the session?

But it’s great to see:

Annis story goes both Manchester clubs at least are after him offering incentives to join them? Parents are seperated and the mother is the one that as been offered incentives for him to join but father says it doesn't work like that and wants him staying at city!
No idea if all true but it is online.

are we able to get him to sign a professional contract or is he too young?

something tells me we won't be able to hold on to him much longer with some of the clubs rumoured to be looking at him

it would be a shame to let a player of that quality leave for a tiny compensation fee but we probably don't have a choice unfortunately

Too young, has to be 17 I think.

To young 17 is limit for full time contract.....there are rules regarding academy players but it favours premier league clubs

You're not alone in that, I got hammered on here for saying the same about age not making a difference when I said it about that Spanish kid Lamal and was called out for comparing our players to him when what I was talking about was his age not skill level .

Got to say that I haven't seen much of him but others speak very highly of him.

If BBM has seen enough to have him training with the first team, that can only be a good thing.

I don’t think people disagree, but a more realistic view would be that some players develop and mature differently.

Colwill had a massive growth spur, some players have other reasons to develop later. I would however say that by the age of 21, if you haven’t got a reason to have nailed down a position it’s likely you’ll always be a bit part player

I been saying for a while this kid is the real deal but hanging on to him is going to be tough but he has the potential to be the next big thing out of the academy

Hopefully Cardiff can agree a pro contact with him soon.

You can offer a contract and agree on it, he just can’t sign it until he is 17.

He can sign a pre contract for when he is 17 thou he could still move it makes it more difficult and compensation would usually be higher. I would imagine an agent would advise against it for the player thou
