That’ll cause even more havoc and controversy; particularly for defenders!

Basically, they’ve decided, like the ball with goal/touch lines, any part of the body level with the any part of the defending player, is deemed onside!

Quite bloody right too. About time some common sense was injected into the game.

The forward should always get the benefit as the game is about scoring goals, not ruling perfectly good goals out due to the striker's shirt sleeve being ahead of the defenders shirt sleeve! Just great news.

about time should never of changed the rule in the first place

it will definitely have teething issues when it starts but in the long run it will make games better and stop all these marginal offsides that get defenders out of jail

Another way is to use the foot as guideline any doubts its advantage attacking team...this was a winger idea! Needed something otherwise as someone said players big meat and 2 veg could decide offside!! :laughing6:

This makes much more sense.

Can't stand goals being ruled out by someone's toenail being offside.

I'm pro-goals.

f**k var off all together absolutely shit it is, good old ref decision is final I say like it once was. Fans celebrating then told no goal 2 minutes later or goal and give a little cheer again. It's cringe in my opinion and even worse when they get it wrong, one week one thing is handball the very next game it's not for the exact same thing or not even looked at to start with. Hate var.

No official change to the rule has been confirmed yet. A key ruling on the proposed "daylight" change is expected in March 2026.

I’m sure they tried this in local league football ( South Wales ) years ago ?
Also if the ball was passed from your own half it wasn’t off side. This didn’t work because the centre forward camped out in the oppositions half

Isn't this what the rule always used to be years ago. Daylight between the players? Sensible to me.

I think VAR should be tactical like calls in tennis. Each team can have 3 VAR calls per game if they call VAR and the decision goes with them they don't lose a call (so still have 3 left) If they call VAR and the decision goes against them (so they were wrong) they lose the call (so 2 left).

Would make it a much better system imo

That's pretty much the same as the NFL but I think they get 2 rather than 3 to start with, rules are the same though.

To many close calls to make it practical ? How on earth are the team going to be sure its a pen ect when relying on officials who can't get it right now! Just won't work yes other sports use it but generally don't have as many contentious decisions

So you would be against it which is fine, you're entitled to your opinion on it but it's not an issue & not even been suggested by anyone but a tinfoil hat wearing monkey & I said his idea was sort of like what the NFL does, that's it. I didn't even say I thought it was a good idea or a bad idea.

Every sport has close calls & people looking to game the system BUT what most don't have is players getting in referees faces as a group, intimidating & screaming at them because a decision went against their team, maybe start there? Anyone who approaches the ref other than the captain looking to get involved in the decision gets an automatic yellow card, do it twice and you're off. So what if we end up with 8v8, it will soon put a stop to a lot of the crap we see at every match.

Something has to be done about the current system because nobody is coming away happy with it as it is.
