Alex Robertson

I posted this question recently but at the time, a few people said they expected him to leave.

Well we know he's staying now.

So where does he fit into our midfield?

Since he came into this club, he has played in the eight or ten role.

But BBM said that he played him as a six at Man City.

So I think that's more likely to be where we see him playing for us. He will likely compete with Wintle and Mafico for that position.

Maybe that is his actual position and the reason he struggled at times last season was because he was playing in a role he wasn't used to.

I am still of the opinion that he is top quality when used right. Along with Rubin, his technical ability is the best at the club.

Helps that's he knows BBM.

Well bbm seems to know where to play players to get best out of them and if he says he's a no6 so be it! Get him playing at his best will only enhance the team

He could probably slot in anywhere in the middle but I think we would have to rotate between J.colwill, Rubin, Turnbull and Robertson. I think he would be more useful further up the pitch than in Wintles position.

He's gonna have to bide his time with the way Wintle is playing.

Where does this leave Chambers? I can’t see where he gets game time

Last 15 mins fresh legs see the game out.

I can see him as competition across any of the 3 CM positions but I'd imagine he'll slot into J Colwill 8 role. I can also see Turnbull playing 6 for Wintle as he did it really well against Plymouth last year with RC & AR infront of him.

Brilliant options for BBM to utilise and with injuries and suspensions I guess they all may need to be moved around :thumbright:

I always thought he was an 8, good problem to have as I feel he can play any of the three roles. I’d like to see him given a go off the bench for Wintle/Joel to see how he does. Think he gets into any other midfield in the league and a few in the Champ.

Always thought he was overrated… I seem to be in the minority

I think he's hugely talented and, like I said, our most technically gifted player alongside Rubin.

He was disappointing for a lot of last season but so were most of the squad. You only have to look at how some of those players have improved this season (albeit in the league below), such as Willock.

But there were games where he showed his quality. I was at Coventry away where he scored a brilliant goal and he was outstanding. Coventry fans after the game were heaping praise on him. Pompey fans also say he was outstanding in this league and they really wanted him back both last summer and this summer.

I was interested to hear that BBM used him as more of a six at Man City. Sort of makes sense because of his passing range.

I think with this manager, he will be a real asset for us.
