" Now that the window has closed "

Mon Sep 01, 2025 6:00 pm

The transfer window is now shut. I'm pleased it is, we can now focus on the football - not on who's coming in or who's leaving.

I'm also pleased with our window. BBM said he would bring in quality, not quantity and that's what he's done.

Nathan Trott, Gabriel Osho and Omari Kellyman will improve the team.

Could have done with a new LB maybe but Luey Giles is an adequate back up.

But it's also the players we already have. A lot of us expected the likes of Yousef Salech, Callum Robinson and Alex Robertson to leave. But they've stayed.

We have kept Salech, Robinson, Robertson, Rubin, Chambers, Turnbull etc

All top players at this level.

Dylan Lawlor has also signed a much needed new contract.

There has been a lot of talk about the number of players that have left but I remain unbothered about those who have left, with the exception of O'Dowda - and he wanted to leave.

We do have a small squad but that's what BBM always wanted.

A small squad means everyone will get their chance on the pitch. That avoids unrest within the playing group.

The next window is only four months away and things can always be revisited then.

So for these reasons, I'm happy with this summer.

Roll on the great football continuing in just under two weeks :bluebird:

Agree, no major exits. Only O'Dowda is a miss.

The squad we had should never have been relegated and with a proper manager we would've been mid table and comfortable in my opinion.

Hopefully Osho and Kellyman both hit the ground running, and with a bit of luck with injuries and suspensions we can continue the momentum until January

Re: " Now that the window has closed "

Mon Sep 01, 2025 6:05 pm

It is what it is & if somebody doesn't want to be here then fk em. Would have liked one or two more but that's the same every season, but more than happy with what we have for now.

Agree riza was a big mistake

Its been an excellent window as the club did not sell their best players, gave Lawlor a new contact and have signed 3 very high quality players that we would have been happy with in the Championship. I am no fan of Tan or the board but I think it's fair to say they have backed the manager. Hopefully a very exciting season ahead.

Re: " Now that the window has closed "

Mon Sep 01, 2025 6:16 pm

Huge we kept our best players and also managed to add a sprinkling of quality

I think we now have a strong enough squad to see us through to January when bbm can assess the situation and add what he feels we need for the final push for promotion

Re: " Now that the window has closed "

Mon Sep 01, 2025 6:18 pm

The question for me is whether BBM has been FULLY backed by Tan or not.

BBM has said that he has and you have to accept that although he's hardly likely to say otherwise.

He's also said that he's happy to run with a small squad but once the injuries and the suspensions and the fatigue start kicking in any team with a small squad is likely to struggle.

I appreciate the mantra "quality over quantity" but sometimes you need squad players who can challenge those in the first team if for no other reason to protect against complacency. It's never good when there's no proper competition for places.

Trott seems an excellent signing, Osho has experience and also looks like a very good addition. The boy from Chelsea could be a match winner or a disappointment - nobody really knows.

I'm very surprised we haven't managed to find anybody good enough to be at least a back up left back. If Bagan gets injured there's no cover for Giles so we'll have to play somebody out of position at LB and look how badly Mafico struggled when asked to play LB.

Would also have liked to see a Kav type midfielder to help out our young midfield when some of the more "industrial" type League 1 teams decide that that best way to stop Rubin etc will be kicking them out of the game.

Agree with this, I think it’s been a good window. If we signed to many players for the sake of it I think it may disrupt the dressing room. I would have liked another LB but I think Giles will be good enough cover.

I'm glad we kept what we have in truth over any signings although it would have been nice to get one or two more with experience as we will need that as the season goes on but he's working with what's there and the two that come in the last few days, just hope we don't get anymore injuries as it will probably cost us :bluescarf:

Keeping those players is more important than signings.
The fact that we have signed real quality is a fantastic
Addition.
All the dead wood on silly money gone.
I also think Ramsey and odowda going is a blessing in disguise.

Great window

Re: " Now that the window has closed "

I had a big fear of them selling Rubin as his performances have been so good 3 superb signings overall very happy with the window

Re: " Now that the window has closed "

Mon Sep 01, 2025 6:23 pm

We still have cover in midfield or for the last 15/20mins with robertson and chambers to see games out.

Just look at the difference compared to Plymouth: they sold their best players, while we kept the ones we wanted.

Credit where it’s due – this has been a fantastic window.

Giles’ star quality is his delivery/crossing, If we’re chasing a game, he’s an excellent option to have. I’ve got no concerns with him as a temporary solution, and if we do pick up a long-term injury, it’s only until January that we’d need to make do.

It wouldn’t be the first time either – Manga was always a CB, but when Bamba and Robinson formed such a strong partnership, he ended up playing RB.

Overall, an amazing window. Just shows what can be achieved when the board back an excellent manager within a clear structure and plan. :bluescarf:

I'm disappointed with this window, expected a few more in. A few injuries could ruin our promotion campaign

I get what you're saying and obviously it's all about opinions.

But people shouldn't be surprised we've only signed a few, it was never going to be a summer of loads of signings - BBM's comments every week have always pointed to that.

Like I say it's all about opinions, but I'm pleased with this summer.

Re: " Now that the window has closed "

We should be ok we've got decent cover in almost every position. A left back would have been nice but Bagan isn't out of his depth in league one

I would say we have the 2 quality players in trot and osho, the other 2 are kids we will see how they develope under murphy.

It was never going to be a summer of loads of signings because Tan had no intention of spending on our squad. It was always about cutting us back to bare bones, slashing the wage bill by getting rid of 14-15 high earners and chancing his luck on youth and a untested coach. This could already be a disaster but thankfully it's not and that is all down to BBM, he has got this squad playing in a way we havn't seen since the days of Dave Jones. Tan seems to have struck gold by pure luck, i despise him and prey he's gone soon.

Exactly how I see it aswell mate, thankfully the youngsters we have here seem to be buying into BBM way of playing and us fans are reaping the rewards, can't wait for tan to finally f*ck off either

BBM has worked very very hard in a Zero Budget:

Of course Tan Never Backed BBM

We got rid of about 17 players

We are going to receive about £2mill for mark Mcguiness

Sold O’Dowda £350,000

The wage bill is incredible low now.

We never really bought anyone.

BBM and his assistant Deserve full praise on doing this virtually with Zero Budget

What makes you think we would possibly get £2.5 million from the sale of McGuiness to Sheff Utd? Surely we get 25% or whatever of the profit not 25% of the total price otherwise we would make more profit than the selling club.

I think Man City put in a 40% sell on clause for Robertson when we signed him.

Sometimes they're a percentage of the profit and sometimes they're a percentage of the whole fee. But I think when it's simply described as a sell on clause, it's a percentage of the whole fee.

Overall I would say it’s been a good window. Definitely changed our transfer strategy now by going for young, talented players which was the opposite of what many previous managers have done.

Good we’ve kept Salech but I maintain that I think the issue will be in January if he scores a few before then. Can see a Championship team coming in for him to give them a push for the second half of the season

Also, maybe be an unpopular opinion but I would have looked to get rid of Callum Robinson. Far too hit and miss for the wage we pay. The last real good game he had, that I can remember, was the Swansea game where he scored a brace.

I feel that defensively we’re lacking and that’s my biggest concern. An injury or 2 and it could de-rail a promising season. I personally would’ve looked at using any fee/money saved from selling Robinson at reinvesting in a LB or another CB. If we were then short on strikers we could’ve looked at another youngster perhaps like Biancheri

BBM hasn’t put a step wrong so far though so full trust in the gaffer and his decisions
