OFFICIAL / OMARI KELLYMAN SIGNS ON LOAN

Following a spell with injury the 19-year-old was willing to drop to League One level to kick-start his career

Cardiff City FC are delighted to welcome Omari Kellyman to the Welsh capital.

The 19-year-old joins on loan from Chelsea for the 2025/26 campaign.

Omari originally came through the Derby County academy before joining Aston Villa in 2022. He made his professional debut for the Villans in the UEFA Europa Conference League against Hibernian in August of 2023, providing an assist for the winning goal.

Following his first Premier League outing towards the end of the 2023/24 season, the creative player left Villa to join Chelsea. He has represented England at international level, and has appeared for the U19s as well as receiving an U20 call-up.

Kellyman is Brian Barry-Murphy's third addition to the playing squad this summer, joining Nathan Trott and Gabriel Osho in South Wales.

Speaking after signing his loan agreement at CCS, Omari said: "I'm happy to be here. I can’t wait to get started.

“I like to make things happen. I like to be forward thinking and get on the ball as much as possible. I want to come here, get some goals and assists and help the team.

"I've been watching the recent games and it's been great to see the exciting players we already have. I'm looking forward to playing with the lads."

CARDIFF CITY AGREE TO SIGN WINGER OMARI KELLYMAN ON LOAN FROM CHELSEA

DEAL DONE

Updated

Cardiff City are keen on signing exciting Chelsea teenager Omari Kellyman on loan.

The Bluebirds are in the market for a winger and a left-back before the transfer window closes on Monday at 7pm, while the idea of further bolstering the midfield has also been considered. And Bluebirds boss Brian Barry-Murphy appears to have set his sights on one of Chelsea's hottest young prospects.

However, there are still details which need ironing out before a deal is completed.

Kellyman, 19, secured a move from Aston Villa to Stamford Bridge last year in a deal believed to be worth £19m.

The forward, who operates either as a No.10 or out on the wing, endured an injury-hit first year in west London, however, seeing his season cut short owing to two hamstring issues, limiting his game-time to just four U21s appearances.

Chelsea now believe Kellyman needs regular game-time and Cardiff want to be the club which can offer him that in what the player will doubtless view as a crucial 12 months for his career and development.

Barry-Murphy worked closely with, and speaks very highly of, Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca during their time together in Manchester City's academy setup.

The Bluebirds head coach will likely have sought advice from his old colleague and Cardiff will hope the relationship between the two places the Welsh side in a strong position amid competition from rival clubs for his signature.

Championship clubs have also registered an interest in the player this summer.

Kellyman made six first-team appearances for Villa before moving to Chelsea. He is a former England youth international, while he represented Northern Ireland at U17 and U16 level.

He signed a six-year contract at Chelsea in June 2024.

Agree. This is incredibly ambitious and he would be an outstanding signing for this level.

Really hope we can somehow get it done. Hopefully the links between BBM and Maresca can help sort this.

Cardiff's wing options are in relatively short supply this season, with only Cian Ashford and Chris Willock out-and-out senior wide men after the injury to Ollie Tanner.

Barry-Murphy views Isaak Davies as a striker, primarily, although he has been deployed on the flank. Tanatswa Nyakuhwa is also an option, however, he has suitors relating to a potential loan move away, with a decision still to be made on the academy player's short-term future.

The fact Barry-Murphy and Maresca know each other has to give us a real chance. With the way we’re playing right now, the style of football would suit Kellyman perfectly and really help his development. Still some details to sort out, but this feels like the kind of move that could be massive for both the player and for us.

Not me, but I trust BBM’s judgement and reports are this lad is going to be right up there (at Chelsea or elsewhere)!

He’d be a huge ‘coup’, if these reports are correct! :ayatollah:

I believe the transfer between Villa and Chelsea caused a lot of controversy last year as they "swapped" promising kids at massively inflated transfer values to overcome FFP issues.

But, lets face it, any Chelsea academy lad is going to be at least championship grade.

Your correct about chelsea/villa lots of skulduggery going on over ffp..... but if this is true a very good acquisition which even championship clubs be envious of.

After watching that, i am more confident we'll get him. Skinny kid who'll need the space of the flanks in L1 to do his stuff. L1 is probably the best place for him at a big club with a similar coaching philosophy.

Cardiff City have agreed a deal to sign Chelsea attacker Omari Kellyman on loan.

Insideclubs has been right on a lot and says the same.

Quality signing way to good for league 1, I know he had rotten luck with injuries which kept him out 90% of last season so maybe Chelsea think we're the right club to get him back up to speed

He's quick can beat a man easily has really good ball control and a beautiful left foot on him, could also rival rubin on free kicks as I've seen him score a few beauties, if fully fit would be our most exciting and gifted winger easily

I don’t think most people here have seen him play. Being bought by Chelsea for 19m at that age is a good indication that he’s good though

A lot of Villa fans in this area and I remember them being annoyed they sold him. They said he'd be part of their first team squad within a year. Obviously he had an injury last season which is probably why Chelsea are loaning him out.

Championship clubs also wanted him this summer. But either he or Chelsea chose us, probably due to BBM's relationship with Enzo Maresca.

It's a top quality signing.

Crucially he can play anywhere across the front line. So in terms of versatility, he'll be able to fit a lot of positions.

That would be a great signing as long as he doesn't get injured, hope Kellyman doesn't ease back, he needs to be fully committed.
