Cardiff City boss in transfer message as bids for top stars expected and emotional moment explained
By John Jones

Cardiff City manager Brian Barry-Murphy says he expects plenty of interest in members of his squad from other clubs, after the Bluebirds continued their unbeaten start to life in League One with a 4-0 win over Plymouth Argyle.

Barry-Murphy's side have won five of their six games so far this season and haven't conceded a single goal since going behind to Peterborough on the opening weekend. Goals from Ryan Wintle, Chris Willock, Rubin Colwill and Isaak Davies on Saturday helped keep that run going as they thumped the Pilgrims at the Cardiff City Stadium.

All four goalscorers impressed, while there were also standout performances at the back with Will Fish, Dylan Lawlor and Joel Bagan all producing strong displays. You can see the full player ratings here.

With the Bluebirds top of the pile in League One and with talent all over the park, Barry-Murphy is braced for other clubs further up the pyramid to take interest in his players, but says he is not worried about losing them after receiving "amazing" support from the club hierarchy.

I would expect with the calibre of player we have in the changing room and the way they've played, there will be a lot of interest in our players," he said after the win over Plymouth.

"I would say that what I've felt as much as anything else is an amazing sense of support from the owner, the chairman, Mehmet and Ken to keep these players here and try and create something special and give the supporters what they're seeing at the moment.

"So I would say no in terms of [am I worried about] losing players."

The Bluebirds confirmed their second summer signing, defender Gabriel Osho, on Friday, while the club announced just ahead of kick-off on Saturday that centre-back Jesper Daland has joined Fortuna Dusseldorf on loan until the end of the season.

"Kind of," said Barry-Murphy when asked if he anticipated any new arrivals before Monday's deadline. "We have a real appreciation of the players we have here, and I would say previous signings, Nathan Trott and Gabriel Osho, are the type of player that we want to bring into the squad.

"Based on that calibre of player that we're bringing in, it can't be a lot of players, because the moment you start bringing in a lot of players, the players who have done so much for us here will start to think they don't have the same importance, and that's really dangerous in my opinion
."

It was an emotional day at the Cardiff City Stadium, as both sets of supporters joined in applause in the 14th minute to remember Bluebirds legend Sol Bamba, who died a year ago on Sunday.

Barry-Murphy and captain Colwill both held up a scarf bearing the late defender's name at the full-time whistle, with the Cardiff manager visibly emotional. After the match, he revealed that he had a surprise connection to Bamba and his family, while he also spoke of his own recent loss.

[/i]"My wife is really close to [Bamba's widow] Chloe, so we had a real awareness of what they went through. Today's appreciation of Sol from the whole stadium will give his family a lot of understanding of how important he is to so many people here.

"I think it becomes more significant than a few laps on the pitch and it's very important that we acknowledge him.

"We have their shirts up in the dressing room every single game, so we see Sol and we see Peter Whittingham, and it's pretty significant. You get a feeling that they will always be with you in every single game, it's nice. Our kit man, David Bush... was very close to both.

"I lost my own friend to cancer recently," he added. "It just makes you realise how fragile life is and how we obsess about everything in football but really, it's a small part of people's lives.

"It was just important for his family and our supporters to have that feeling of being connected, it will give a lot of people a lot of comfort in what is going to be a difficult time, bearing in mind how close it is to the anniversary [of his death]."[/i]

I don't think we can read too much into his transfer comments. Clearly not someone who likes talking about it publicly. He played down the Osho talk and then he signed the next day. He's quite reserved in that sense.

Classy comments about Sol and Whitts.

A bit of a random connection between Sarah-Jane Crawford (BBM's wife) and Chloe Bamba.

I see Chloe put a tweet out tonight thanking BBM and saying we're in safe hands with him.
