A big week ahead

Sun Aug 24, 2025 8:30 pm

Big week ahead, on and off the pitch.

Two games. If we can get into Round Three of the Carabao Cup and beat Plymouth to have 16 points from a possible 18, it will be big.

Probably a break from games then because I expect the Burton game to be postponed because of our international players. We only need three to be called up for any nation, including at youth level, to call it off and that's very likely.

Then there's the transfers.

I still think we need 3-4. We need competition for Bagan, he's the only proper senior LB we have. CB and winger also priorities.

The window will close next Monday at 7pm.

Hopefully we get the results and the players we need by then.

Just a thought, if we and the jacks progress in the cup, we'll be in the same pot. :D :D :D

Hope our game v button goes ahead as I want us to stay top of the league as long as possible. Nothing like points on the board.

Get what you're saying but there's a good chance that Rubin, Joel, Kpakio, Lawlor, Ashford etc will all be away.

Think it would be a big risk to go into a game without all of them when we can postpone it if we want to.

Yeh I do see that. Just hope the 2-3 lower than us lose.

We have a great run into the end of the season. We play mostly the weaker teams in April and May, and we have tougher games in the middle of the season.

I don't think its regionalised in round 3 so everyone's in the same pot.

I stand corrected. Its seeded although in this instance I assume we cant play them ?

It’s only seeded for teams in the Champions League and Europa League to avoid European fixture classes. It’s a complicated draw with (initially) two pits, but once those six clubs are sorted, the rest is a straight draw, so we could well draw the ‘Jacks’ (as we could have in Round 2)

Personally, I hope that doesn’t happen. The one benefit of relegation has been a rest from the west Waluan wannabe Wurzels, and if we win on Tuesday, we could draw a proper team to get our support bouncing (hopefully at the CCS) :ayatollah:

So you didn't mean 2-3 teams lower than us then? What did you mean exactly? Enlighten me. I know it's early in the morning but it's not that early that I missed the whole thing.

No need to be rude mate.
I was saying that if we don’t play I’d like the 2-3 teams below us to lose, thus keeping us top. Simple.

And I said that will obviously happen as everyone is below us. Nothing rude about that at all but if you're going to get your knickers in a twist over something amusing then fine.

I'm sorry I hurt you're feelings while making a light hearted joke.

No knickers twisting this side of the water. You clearly still can’t see what I meant so perhaps it is a little early. Never mind we’ll leave it at that.

Another day gone with no signings and nobody linked or rumoured.

Surely even those who are confident of 3 to 4 signings must be getting a little concerned by now?

BBM said on Saturday that he's confident of signings but couldn't say what day it would be.

Just got to trust that.

Rumours mean nothing really, we only knew about Trott because of the Danish journalist reporting it. Seems things are being kept under wraps a lot better.

But I will say I will be very disappointed if we don't have 3 in by 7pm next Monday.

Re: A big week ahead

For me if we don’t sign players we won’t go up?I still think we’ve got an hard run of games coming up and we need options especially if we have injuries and suspensions, surely with us top of the league tan should be backing bbm but I don’t think he will

Re: A big week ahead

Mon Aug 25, 2025 5:15 pm

I'm starting to wonder if the plan is to save a lot of the budget until January to see where we are in the table

I can't think of any other rational explanation as to why bbm has not been backed so far

The most likely reason is we have a board of bellends who couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery but I live in hope bbm has a master plan

Re: A big week ahead

I do not think the non-transfers are a tactic; we are the bottom of a large chain.

It's clear that the days of overpaying to get your way are gone. Every club is trying to get bargains, and the window closes this time next week, so no need to panic yet.

We haven't got the budget of last season, so we can't afford to carry expensive players. I think a lot depends on whether Chambers, Robinson, Daland or Willock leave.

There may be issue of dropping down to L1 for some players as well. Playing so well can only help.

I am not worrying until next Tuesday

Thats a good point, if we want quality, there probably is sometimes an issue with getting quality players to drop so low.

But in our favour, we are playing great possession-based football, top of the league, just won the last three on the Trott with clean sheets, we must look like an attractive option to some clubs to be trusted wth their young top talent, thats what i'm hoping anyway.

Re: A big week ahead

We've made a great start for sure but it's defo an important week.

BBM just needs a bit of backing now. Not a lot, but a bit to plug these gaps and covers injuries. This squad will never last the 46 games, especially not playing at this tempo.

You get the feeling though that Tan wants to do it on zero budget so he can take all the plaudits if we get promotion.
