How would we do in the championship with this team

Sat Aug 23, 2025 6:36 pm

As the title asks how do you think we'd do now in the championship with bbm and this team we've put together now?
I feel like we will walk this league we look head and shoulders better than any one we've played so far, would we need too add loads of new players too stay in the championship when we get promoted or would we do well with the team we've been putting out

I don't agree we'll walk this league, I don't think anyone will. Always believed we'll be up there at the end of the season though.

As for the Championship, difficult to say. We mustn't get carried away, this level has a lot of teams who are significantly weaker than in the Championship.

But I think these young players playing a whole season in League One will be hugely beneficial to them IF we are back in the Championship next season.

The experience of playing first team football in a (hopefully) successful team will be massive for their progress.

Especially as time goes by, this style of play will be second nature to these players and will just improve in this system.

Bottom half as it is on a another level way way higher.

And I am still not convinced we will go straight up without another 3-4 quality players

Injuries / suspensions and illness

Sunderland struggled in their first year back up with a young squad, only just managing to stay up. But they kept faith with the same group of players, and last season they kicked on and went up.

I rewatched the game, and I’d strongly recommend everyone watch the final five minutes of injury time. Other than one cross comfortably caught by Trott, Luton never got into our box for the entire period.

We’re away from home, only a one-goal lead in the most pressurised stage of the match, and yet our young side completely controlled the situation. Luton couldn’t even win the ball back to mount an attack.

In the past, that would’ve meant eleven men camped in the box, defending desperately like the Alamo.

Instead, it was calm, composed, and a joy to watch and proof of just how talented this young group of players really is.

I wouldn't be too optimistic about their ability at a higher level just yet.
We still don't take enough chances in front of goal to start off with.
But things are looking more promising for the future

This is a really good point , and well noticed,
It’s been years since watching this type of football , and really exciting to watch , and to have the confidence to keep going forward towards the end just speaks volumes for what BBM is doing with these players , changing my mind very quickly on BBM .
We need players in NOW

I think we could have finished mid table

The keeper is the main difference so far; he's steadied the ship and the back, and gives the defenders confidence.

If we'd had Trott and BBM at the start of last season, we'd be top half easy.

It's a pity we've lost O'Dowda, he would still add a lot to this young squad.

At the begining of the season I told my Dad we will win the league at a canter and make the Championship playoffs the following season.

Yes. My glasses are blue tinted. I don''t care. I stand by it. :bluebird:

We have a huge amount of generational talent and instead of sending them all off to league 1 to learn their trade and gain experience individually we have the unique opportunity to let them grow together, with a coach and system that will emphasise their individual and collective strengths.

The only downside to the whole thing is Tan is less likely to let go when we are on the ascendency.

But I've been crying out for giving the youth a chance and a manager like BBM - I always thought the biggest mistake we made in recent years was pushing Bellers away. BBM and Bells are of the same mould so we've got their eventually.
