Willock an option at 10?

Sat Aug 23, 2025 2:46 pm

I know he put in a good performance today, but there's still a lack of true pace to him out wide - so could Willock be the answer to cover for Rubin? We won't be able to put all our eggs in the RC basket all season as he'll need a break at some point.
Using Willock as cover for RC, and potentially Chambers as cover for Turnbull/Joel (rather than as a creaky centre-back) could let the core players get a rest in some matches or come off after 55-60 in others?

i may just be talking rubbish though!

Although he hasn’t performed for us until recently, there are a few players shining under BBM (Tanner, R.Colwill) who have previously failed to show up for many games.

Robinson is the natural choice for me, if Colwill needs a rest or gets injured he will have to step in. Robertson could play a slightly more defensive 10, or even Davies. We would effectively play with 2 up top in that kind of situation, although it would sit more 4411 a bit like we currently do.

Willock is better off on the wing while Tanner is out

I think you are spot-on, I think Willock is a more natural 10 than winger, so I think he’s definitely an option. Robinson is too, although he’d be a bit more of a forward 10, than a midfield 10 if you know what I mean. Robertson is also an option there, although from BBM’s comments i think he’s definitely sees him as a 6 or an 8. JC could also play there, but I think the most direct replacement is Willock

Didn't Willock play the odd game as a 10 last season and not very good. Although not much was good last season

I don't see it.

He scored the goal today because he was given license from the manager to drift inside.

Rubin is the clear number ten. If he's injured or suspended then Robinson, Turnbull or even Joel can play there.

Willock was very good on the wing today and when he plays that well, he's a good player to drift towards that position so we have in effect two number tens in those situations.

So I'd keep him where he is against Plymouth.
