Where does Robertson fit in?

Thu Aug 21, 2025 5:51 pm

Q. Where do you see Alex Robertson playing? He's played as a ten and an eight here, sometimes a six when needed.

BBM:

"My early experience with Alex was probably different to you guys. You saw him as more of an attacking midfielder.

When he was with me at Man City, he played as more of a six.

But he can do both so I see him being flexible in all those positions for us really."

Forgot about him to be honest

We actually have probably the strongest midfield in league 1 imo with plenty of options to decide from depending on the opposition

For me I see Robertson as more of an 8, good at taking the ball under pressure with a decent pass on him

But I bet every team in the division would love the option of
Wintle turnbull Robertson King the 2 Colwills to choose from

Nowhere for me,
his attitude has been awful he
gave up about halfway through
riza' s tenure

All good players. We will need all 6 when injuries and suspensions kick in. Desperate for a left back and 2 wingers. If Salech gets injured we will have a problem although this style of football will suit Robinson.

To be fair, a lot of the players gave up last season.

This manager seems to have reinvigorated a lot of them.

Look at Turnbull, seems a different player now. Unlucky not to start at Wimbledon but had a good impact when he came on.

There's a total change in mindset from the players it seems.

NED

He looked uninterested even in the friendlies but at least murphy will not play him if he does not impress in training

He’s undoubtedly a good player but he will have to work hard to get in. Which is good for us.

We have many options in midfield and all bring different pros and cons.

Interesting that bbm had him more defensively minded.
Mind you give riza played everyone out of position we shouldn’t be surprised.

Given the fact that senior players haven't started games, I'm sure if he doesn't perform in training then he won't play.

The way it should be.

Straight into starting 11 if fit. He's quality.

Re: Where does Robertson fit in?

I never saw what some did in him, there were glimpses, but in his favour he looked a lost kid in a spineless sqaud.

At a lower Joel Colwill has looked a real handful, but he is an 8, and i guess Robertson is a sitter, we just had managers with an obsession of playing players out of position.

He was more played as a number 10, for me he's not creative enough to play there. His passing is neat and tidy, he's composed on the ball and will put his foot in. More of a 6 or an 8

I think he's head and shoulders above anyone else in this league in central midfield. He's one of those players that knows it though so he's quite hard to take too.

How lucky are we to have him, Turnbull and Colwill in the middle of the park together. On song, I think they'd get into a lot of championship teams.

Agree with some that his attitude has been off, and I thought he was really poor in pre-season. He’s the one player I wanted to stay above all others. If BBM sees him as a 6 then he’d come in for Wintle. Winter has been excellent so far but I think Robertson is better. A good problem to have anyway

Along with the rest of the team bar probably Salech and O'Dowda.

We've not seen the best of him yet, BBM will show us how good he can be.

I believe BBM will get hi in the side as a 6 for Wintle, be strong competition. He can also
rotate to suit the systems playing out throughout the games.
Lots of players were bamboozled by Rizzas tactics, we now have a manager who's tactically very aware (at last)
Good player to have up your sleeve

Decent player on a top Premiership books should be versatile and ahead of Wintle and others ...

As we have a small squad he will always play some part especially with the injury prone ones

Wing back perhaps.

I got a sneaky feeling we're going to sell him

I thought that at the start of the window but don't see it now.

We want a lot of money for him and of the teams linked, only Ipswich can afford him. They've got enough decent midfielders so I don't see them paying the money.

Think he'll stay now.

Re: Where does Robertson fit in?

He has to fight for his place like everyone else if wintle gets injured then we have Robertson and chambers and King to cover so I'd say middle of midfield sorted wingers defo need pace another striker wouldn't go a miss and at least one fullback to cover began and finally we been asking this before season started a centre back big strong dominating defender and I think we are set if we don't get anyone as bbm has said many times he's been backed then it's him that's not brought anyone in live by the sword die by the sword as the saying goes time is running out

He reminds me of Stuart O'Keefe, neat and tidy, but hardly anything that tells me he is above the championship.

I can't recall him winning MoM awards on here.
