Liverpool supporter banned from all UK stadiums

Mon Aug 18, 2025 12:56 pm

A man who was arrested on suspicion of racially abusing Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo during the opening match of the Premier League season at Anfield has been banned from every football stadium in the UK.

The Cherries' Friday game against Liverpool was briefly halted in the 29th minute after Semenyo flagged it up to the referee.

A 47-year-old man from Liverpool, who was arrested on Saturday on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence, has been conditionally bailed, Merseyside Police said.

The conditions include a ban on attending any regulated football match in the UK and not going within one mile of a designated football stadium.

The force said the investigation into the incident was ongoing and it was working closely with Liverpool Football Club.

The 25-year-old Ghana international posted on social media that the night at Anfield would stay with him forever "because of how the entire football family stood together".

He thanked his teammates, Liverpool players and fans and the Premier League officials "who handled it professionally".

47 years of age, FFS! Will some people just never grow up! :banghead:

Appears the perpetrator was identified quickly to the authorities by those around him, so the problem was solved quickly

Personally, I’ve never seen it at Ninian Park or the CCS, but I did see it once at the Arms Park, where a home spectator called Gerald Cordle a name from the (supposed) safety of the stand. The comment was heard, Gerald stopped and walked over to the stand, and it was like Moses parting the biblical seas, as the crowd opened up to leave one suddenly not so vocal individual on his own, his face a picture of fear!

These people who shout, throw, abuse, from the (supposed) safety of the ‘crowd’ are cowards in the extreme, but as some learn (remember our own youths on the Swindon train a few years back?), these days there is a pretty good chance they will be caught and dealt with. It’s not so ‘funny’ then! :ayatollah:

Yes, the right protocols were followed on Friday.

Semenyo heard the comments and then told the match referee, Anthony Taylor.

Taylor spoke to both managers and captains and thankfully the authorities dealt with the perpetrator quickly.

I apologise if I am incorrect but I understand that the offender may have been one of the disabled supporters who was promptly wheeled out of the ground.

That was an interesting read Paul, thanks for posting.

Sounds like there's been an issue with this particular fan for a while and Liverpool's stewards maybe should have done something earlier.

If you throw a coin towards someone on the pitch, then you'd probably get a ban. Shouldn't be any different with chewing gum.

I watched the game on Sky and it definitely came from the Liverpool disabled section as Semenyo was taking a throw in.

As I said, I think the referee handled the situation very well by following the right protocols.

Semenyo, to his credit, didn't let it distract him and scored two goals which is the perfect response.
