Nathan Trott:
‘It’s probably the youngest defence I’ve been involved in, but there’s huge talent. None of them hide away from the ball or shy away from the pressure the boss puts on them. For me, it’s about becoming a better leader. I have a responsibility to keep everyone in check.”

The only joy Rotherham had against the defence was against our young left left back which a yellow card ultimately sorted that out.
Dont think I’ve ever seen our back four have so much time on the ball.
By the way I think Mafico will learn and come back

Trott pulled off a good save in about 85th minute which was their only shot I believe.

That save was excellent because he’d not done anything all day due to how inefficient Rotherham were but he was still alert to the threat late on

Yeah, I agree.
The key thing is he pushed it away from goal too. Alnwick and Horvath last season often just pushed the ball in front of them when they made a save, giving the opponents a chance with the rebound.

I know NG will come back relatively soon, but the fact is we need to get one or two more defenders ASAP. Mafico won’t cut it, as much as I want him to do well, being one of our own, he needs more game time so a loan would probably be the best course for him.
The Port Vale game showed it. If we play against a team that puts more pressure on the defence then we crumble slightly.
Also injuries are bound to happen, the depth in our squad is my only worrying concern.

I've noticed with trott in goal I don't get that wave of anxiety when the ball is passed back to him like I did with horvarth or alnwick

He'll get gametime in midfield, he's not a left back but was helping us out.

If we get another LB and CB in we won’t let many goals this season at all.
Good to have a confident keeper.

I think you’re being a bit harsh on Mafico by saying he won’t make it. He was up against two strong players in Dan Gore and Ar’jany Martha, and on top of that, he was being targeted by Kelly, who kept appealing for fouls every time Mafico put in a tackle. I still believe he’s got a bright future ahead of him—though probably not at left back, to be fair.
BBM made the right call in taking him off, and handled it well afterwards by explaining his decision rather than crucifying him, as Steve Morison did with Isaak Davies. That showed real class from BBM.
