" Will Fish "

What do we all think of him?

I thought he was great today, he stood up to the physical challenges.

But there's also times that he doesn't pass properly, which is crucial in the way we play now.

I can see why he was at Manchester United because he can defend.

But he really needs to improve his passing.

Quite obvious a new CB will come in (maybe two), possibly that's Osho.

I'm undecided whether it's Fish or Lawlor that stays in the team.

But much better than Chambers.

I like him. He's got an error in him but so have our defence. He did well today. Strong and composed. Some lovely diagonals for tanner to get on to.

Even though he's still young himself the back 4 he had playing with him today were all this season academy break throughs. He managed that situation really well and looked a class above today.

Spotting and switching him to the right of the two is excellent management. More comfortable and his diag to tanner is quality. Great game.

Said i preferred 1st game if season to chambers better i the air challenging clearing quicker chambers at the back is a horror show fish played today and against Peterborough and we looked so much better,
chambers came in at port vale slowed it down, against Swindon he did the same,
and gave the goal away .

Fish & Lawlor all day we have the luxury to now let them develop and understand thier game .

Hopefully we have a decent keeper in place .

When we go up ( and we will ) those two will have matured and be ready for the bigger challenges of the Championship.

Do need to sort full backs out , perhaps the returning NG will help provide some experience.

I do wonder if Eli King could do a job in defence?..

Thought he played great and I echo the comments above about defence work and diagonal balls to tanner etc. Which is basically what I wrote on the mom thread when voting him.
Gave us the backbone to allow the attacks I thought

Will Fish has a solid game defensively and proved to have a valuable and accurate cross field pass to start off an attack.
But looking at the bigger picture with the defence of Kpakio, Fish, Lawlor ang Bagan; Aged 18, 22, 19 and 23 respectively, these young lads deserve some praise.
Surely, they can only get stronger and better players if we keep them together as a unit.

The only way these two will get better is to play together weekly although I'm not really a fan of lawlor as he's not as physical and don't win many headers but doing a job right now either way for now . If chambers starts next game at the back I'll.be shocked though although they did have a lot to do the back line as Rotherham are appalling in any press or pushing up the field to be fair. Wimbledon will be in our faces so I expect a totally different game as I dont think the left to right and right to left passing along the back like the the goalkeeper 10 times before it hits somebody forward will work as they will be right on us which will lead to mistakes as we have seen already Vs a team who press us but he away with it so far :bluescarf:

I want my central defenders to be strong defensively first and foremost - I don't really care about their passing abilities.

Give me a Sean Morrison over a Callum Chambers any day.

Centre halves should always be looking to give the ball to a midfielder especially if we are looking to play out from the back as BBM clearly intends to do.

Another tactic seems to be the long diagonal ball from the defence to the wingers which sometimes comes off and sometimes doesn't.

Ben Turner used to get a lot of stick for his attempts at a long diagonal ball!

Ben Turner wasn't required to play over 100 passes a game, though...

Yeah, obviously they need to be able to defend.

But given our style, they have to be able to pass well and Fish can.

Played a number of great diagonals to Tanner.
