BBM ON INJURIES:

Vale Park

Vale Park has been the home of Port Vale since 1950.

It has a capacity of 15,695.

Our away fans will be housed in the Bycars End, which has capacity for around 3,300 supporters.

The nearest train station to the stadium is Longport, but it's around a 30 minute walk away so fans should either leave enough time to walk or pay for a taxi.

About Port Vale

Port Vale make their return to the third tier this season, having finished 2nd in League Two last season.

Their last season at this level was in 2023/24.

Their main rivals are Stoke City.

Club Connections

Jak Alnwick obviously plays for us but he also had a spell at Port Vale between 2015 and 2017, making over 60 league appearances.

The Opposition's Manager

Darren Moore was appointed Vale manager in February 2024.

Despite a shaky start, he successfully took them back to League One at the first attempt last season.

He also had spells in charge of West Brom and Sheffield Wednesday.

Opposition Dangerous Players

Experienced striker Jayden Stockley scored 11 goals and got six assists in League Two last season.

Cameron Humphreys looks to be a good signing from Rotherham. The defender played 40 games for Rotherham last season.

Referee

Tom Reeves refereed 27 games last season, the majority being in League One and League Two.

He showed 87 yellow cards and four red cards, an average of 3.2 yellow cards per game.

Head To Head - last five meetings

We have won each of the last five meetings although it should be said that the last of these was back in 2014, when we beat them 3-2 at Vale Park in the EFL Cup.

The other four meetings before that took place in the early 2000s.

Team News - Predicted Line-Ups

Port Vale: Marosi, Clark, Debrah, Humphreys, Hall, Ojo, Byers, Shipley, Tolaj, Waine, Stockley

Cardiff City: Turner, Kpakio, Lawlor, Fish, Bagan, Wintle, J Colwill, R Colwill, Ashford, Tanner, Salech

Last Game

We began the season with a 2-1 home win over Peterborough.

Port Vale lost their opening game, 2-1 away at Rotherham, with each team having a player sent off.

Match Odds

Port Vale - 15/8
Cardiff City - 11/8
Draw - 11/5

I think it'll be a tough game.

By all accounts they did well in the second half at Rotherham yesterday, after a poor first half performance. A bit of a strange game with both teams having a player sent off but they could have got something out of it in the end apparently.

I'm sure their fans will try and make it hostile but we've got plenty of our own fans going too.

All that said, it is a game we should be looking to win if we want to be top six.

I would say that I hope we don't play for a draw, but I don't think that sort of mentality exists in our manager's head - we'll continue to play attacking football whatever happens.

Everything I've seen so far from bbm suggests we will go out to try an win every game

I watched the extended highlights of Rotherham and port Vale and a point would have been a fair result they were really poor first half but took the game to Rotherham after the break

I think Darren Moore is a good manager and will set them up to be hard to beat but I feel we have the quality to break them down and take all 3 points

Just hope turnbull stays on the bench, and Joe colwill keeps his place,
i feel Joe gets stuck in more turnbull and Robertson are both to pretty Joe I gave man of the match I know his brother got the accolade but I thought Joe was great,
broke up play tackled restled the ball back plays it simple and a sublime step over back pass for tanner.

I agree, Colwill Junior has to stay in.

Him, Wintle and Turner surprised me the most yesterday - didn't expect those three to play that well and I was worried when I saw they were starting. How wrong I was.

I didn't think we'd take that much for a Thursday night live on Sky.

But I suppose it's one of many stadiums in this league that a lot of fans haven't been to before, definitely none of our fans have been there for a long time.

Vale fans like a scrap though so our fans need to be aware of that.

In for Lawlor I would guess just hope Joe colwill keeps his place and the likes of Robertson who i still think will leave, and turnball both need to earn there place .
For me Joe did not put a foot wrong reminded me of gunarrsson tackling harassing then playing it simple running with the ball ,got a good engine I have seen Robertson quite often walking around on the pitch and cannot remember turnbull getting stuck in.
We need a fighter in midfield now that ralls has gone Robertson turnbull are to pretty in a football sense.

Ng injured his knee on his first day back of pre-season, while Robertson suffered a nasty injury during the club's final summer outing against Notts County, requiring stitches on a wound on his leg following a heavy challenge.

Chambers:

"Our pre-season was tough, the intensity of our training sessions have gone through the roof. And everyone stepped up to that.

"I think every young player and everyone who came back (from loans) have really stepped up to the plate and a lot of them got the opportunity they deserved through the pre-season they had."
