Any changes to the team on Thursday?

Sun Aug 03, 2025 2:26 pm

No injuries yesterday so BBM can pick the same team for Vale if he wants.

This was the team against Peterborough:

Turner
Kpakio Lawlor Fish Bagan
Colwill Colwill Wintle
Tanner Salech Ashford

I think (not 100%) that Chambers was only banned for one game so I'd consider bringing him in for Fish.

Would also consider playing Davies ahead of Ashford. I thought the players that struggled the most yesterday were Fish and Ashford.

But then again, I didn't see yesterday's team coming so I could be way off. But I'd go:

Turner
Kpakio Lawlor Chambers Bagan
Colwill Colwill Wintle
Tanner Salech Davies

I'd agree with that line up to start on Thursday based on Saturday's performance.

It'll be interesting to see if BBM is the type of manager who changes the team depending on the opposition or who has a regular first eleven with major changes only made when necessary due to injuries and suspensions etc.

I have to say that Turner, Tanner and Joel Colwill would not have been in my starting eleven yesterday but all of them fully deserve to start the game on Thursday.

Chambers in for Wintle for me. Rest unchanged. Give this defence minutes and confidence.

Please dont use Chambers in the back 4 this season.

Before I get Wintle-abuse, he was good on Saturday but Chambers (for me) is better in every department. Competition for that spot is healthy.

I was with Ned on this one initially thinking Chambers instead of Fish - but then maybe if we played him in midfield, giving Fish a little bit of extra cover, and also getting involved as a central playmaker - could work.

and yes Davies on the wing instead of Ashford for me - play for 60 minutes then Robinson take over for the last 30.

Better passer? Better vision?

You’re saying every department, but that’s hard to believe. Chambers looked okay in a double pivot, but a standalone 6 is a much different job.

If anyone needs to rotate with Wintle, it’s likely King.

Are you saying that Wintle deserves to be dropped?
IMO he was MoM.

I'd also consider Davies in place of Ashford and surely Chambers will start as newly named captain.

Wintle has to keep his place...how can he play such a good game and be dropped?

Chambers to come in centre back for fish or lawlor for me

Plenty of debate here which is good and shows our depth.

I can see Davies coming in for Ashford.

Chambers is an interesting case. When he was announced as captain I assumed that meant BBM saw him as a starter, but now he’s said Chambers was voted captain by the rest of the squad maybe that wont be the case?

I think he’ll come in for Fish, but agree with others that he’s a much better DM than he is a CB.

Dropped is a harsh term. Answer me this, would Wintle have started if Chambers wasnt banned? I'm not sure.

Also, if Chambers doesnt give an 8/10, Wintle comes back in. That's promotion standard competition for places.

Dropped is harsh and I would have picked Chambers over Wintle you’re right but having seen Wintles performance, he can’t be dropped imo. (All opinions tho mate).

I think chambers comes straight in as center back with fish or lawler, it's not what I would do but think it's what bbm will do

I'd also maybe start Davies if he's fit instead of Ashford I though cian had a quiet game yesterday

Re: Any changes to the team on Thursday?

100% Davies in for Ashford. Would also go with Chambers and Darland. Need an out an out centre half.

Re: Any changes to the team on Thursday?

I can't get on board with leaving Wintle out, he was brilliant yesterday. He obviously needs to follow it up in his next start, but to give him the best chance of that then he should start at Vale.

Same goes for Joel Colwill.

I get people are unsure of Chambers at CB but given he's played there in all of pre-season, I think that's where he'll play.

He could do well there alongside Lawlor, an experienced head and a young talent.

Re: Any changes to the team on Thursday?

Davies in for Ashford. Although Chambers is captain I would not start him. This gives a clear message to ANYONE. If you play well you keep the shirt. By doing this a clear message is sent out and fosters great treat spirit.

Re: Any changes to the team on Thursday?

Sun Aug 03, 2025 7:25 pm

Wintle far more mobile than Chambers, there's no way he would come in for him after that perfomance.

Davies would cause a lot more problems with his pace especially being away from home. I thought Tanner did ok but would Robinson be a better option? We would lose Tanners pace but get more goal threat and better final ball.

I wouldn't want to keep changing the back 4 but if he wants to bring Chambers back, we then need a consistent defence after that. I thought Daland did well when he came on and gave us a bit more physically, especially in the air.

Good problems to have and that's without any new players joining or Turnbull and Robertson returning :ayatollah:

Joe colwill for me is a must keep sliding tackles gets stuck in breaks play up, plays the simple pass and takes players on, runs with it, and his sublime step over back pass for tanner was class

I think chambers is viewed as a CB and as captain he’s back next game. I think it may be for lawlor but fine wirh it being for fish.

I’d be looking to keep midfield fresh as we have enough quality there to rotate and maintain performances. I can see king getting game time.

It’s a long season and the way we play will
Probably need changes in the high intensity positions

That famous saying: “Don’t fix, what’s not broken.”

Re: Any changes to the team on Thursday?

Hope Chambers doesn’t go to CB. He’s a better RB than he is CB. Got a bad feeling CB will be his main role this season though.

My team for Thursday would be pretty much unchanged. Isaac Davies for Ashford and maybe Turnbull for Joel Colwill if available. Not that Joel done much wrong against Peterborough but Turnbull should be too good for this league and has to start if fit and wants it.

Re: Any changes to the team on Thursday?

I thought both Tanner and Ashford struggled. Would like to see Willock and Davies on the wings.

Re: Any changes to the team on Thursday?

Sun Aug 03, 2025 10:26 pm

My team would be:

Turner

Bagan
Darland
Chambers
Kpakio

Wintle
Colwill
Colwill

Davies
Salech
Tanner

undoubtedly we should play our first choice side in the league games and save the changes for the various cups.
therefore I would keep the same starting 11 save for davies instead of Ashford. this is the reason I was against chambers as captain as he doesn't warrant an automatic 1st x1 place.

but isn't it great to be debating so positively last season we'd be changing for shit performances this season (so far) not so.

Yes he would have started. Don’t think you’ve been following his performances during preseason. Wintle has been solid.

Noticed a few comments like this.

A captain isn’t a guaranteed starter!

Look at Harry Maguire for example, he’s been Man Utd’s captain for years, even when he hardly saw game time.

Probably Chambers for Fish, maybe Robinson or Davies for Ashford. Just a thought, BBM keeps saying he wants the young players to be brave and learn, could he work hard with Ashford and Fish, use the analysis, point out the ways they could improve, and keep Ashford in if he trains well?

It will be interesting to see how the next few weeks develop and who we sign to strengthen the team.

Also, as it's two games in a week, and only the first week of the season, the players aren't fully match fit, could he make a lot of changes to reduce the chance of injuries ?
