Winning from a losing position

Sat Aug 02, 2025 10:25 pm

That was a pleasing aspect from today.

I thought the penalty was soft and we deserved to be ahead at half time, but we were losing 1-0.

But the players heads didn't drop, they came out fighting in the second half to get the win.

That's a big difference from last season. Back then, I knew we'd lose if we went a goal behind.

Not going to get carried away, but it's a positive sign.

I was thinking that earlier. There's one thing about the younger generation in that they have no fear and just want to play.

There was a time when certain older players could not get themselves motivated for a mid week match away at Port Vale - but I feel far more confident that many of those, that played today, will give everything on Thursday - because they just enjoy playing

Excellent character shown by these young players to come back and win.

Also great experience for them, knowing they can do it, which likely they’ll have to a few times this season.

Completely agree! This time last year, our heads would have dropped and we’d have struggled to get back into the game! :ayatollah:

Always key to win your first game for me Port Vale which is a tough area so be aware away lads . Its actually Burslem they were formed via :ugeek: Porthill Victoria F.C. and took its name from the valley of canal ports

The mighty short socked Rhys Weston played for them .

This is the key one for me ,where we may learn a lot ..

We had an awful record last year of winning when in a losing position I am sure someone will know the fact but I think it was once all season

The way we gave possession away in the last 10 minutes we were lucky that we did not throw it away. The better teams last season would have scored.

Yes that was the worrying aspect of yesterday Keeper made a save that 9 times out of 10 would have been a goal

We also had an awful record winning games when we went ahead, or winning games in general last season :(

Agreed, we dealt with it though. We should have won by a bigger margin but 1st game of the season with a performance like that cant complain. Plenty to build on and other players to come back
