Our first four league games

Thu Jul 31, 2025 1:56 pm

No excuses it should be 12 points.

Peterborough home- struggled last season in league one have lost key players

Port Vale away - Just promoted

Rotherham home- mid table in league one last season

Wimbledon away- Just promoted

Important we get off to a good start and show we're promotion contenders it will help us attract the players we're looking to bring in on loan before with window shuts.

Anything from nine points upwards would be a good start.

Five or lower would be a disappointment.

Disagree away to not one but two promoted teams is not easy at all....

Minimum 9pts

We have to win our home games so the minimum for me is 8 points, though I’d expect 9. Anything under 8 is a disappointment for sure.

I'd be happy with anything from 7 points, considering there are 2 promoted sides to face.
Often promoted sides start well.
But it would be extremely disappointing to lose more than one of those matches.

Re: Our first four league games

10 points minimum for me but on paper it should be 12. We have Luton away and Plymouth home after that two sides I expect to be in the automatic hunt.

We are the biggest team in this league. Every game against us for most teams will be their cup final time to show we are the big dogs and put them in their place.

I'm optimistic. I was against the appointment of BBM but he speaks well and has a clear philosophy and isn't scared to make an example of players not committed eg Willock.

I think we'll win the first four.

We should be looking at 4 wins anything else is not good enough if we want to be promoted as coach says

Luton will be right up there but I'm not sold on Plymouth.

A lot of key players have gone and the players they've brought in don't seem to be at the same standard.

And so it starts! Demands on a new manager, who has taken over a depleted squad with (subject to signing today or tomorrow) one new player; a goalkeeper!

Let’s just get behind the manager, the players, and just see how it goes, eh?

I have positive vibes for the season, but to demand 100% at the start of any season is a pretty tough ask (last done by us during Malky’s tenure)!

Malkays a good bench mark why not we have championship at least players playing in league one why shouldn't we win 4 from 4?

I'm just stating the obvious. If you read my post further down on BBM maybe you wouldn't say something so ridiculous.

The first four games should be 12 points you can play devil's advocate all you want those teams should not be on our level if we're serious about promotion.

As I said we're the big boys now so time to start acting like it if we're serious about promotion.

2 points per game is usually there or there abouts. 8 points undefeated is the goal. Better than that is an excellent start.

Maybe so still think it'll be tough against Plymouth. Huddersfield are the ones I'm wary of.

They've made a lot of decent signings but who knows if they'll gel.

I just think we need a good start heading into those two fixtures.

I respect your comments but disagree that I’m a ‘Devil’s Advocate’; I’m simply giving my personal opinion that you’re demanding too much too soon

Having said that, I sincerely hope you are right and I am wrong, as the one thing we have in common is a desire for our club to be successful on and off the pitch! :ayatollah:

Got to remember this is the same squad that got us relegated from the championship. If we lose or draw our first 3 then morale will go through the floor. Makes it harder then to improve. So I think a good strong start is critical.

I agree here. To say that we should get 12 is extreme. I don't think any team in any league would expect 12 points from 12 after being relegated the season before.
To me it's just an excuse to get ready to knock the players manager etc etc

Sven if this was the championship I would agree but I would say the same for any manager in charge in this league.

We are the biggest club in this league, that's not even being arrogant it's a fact.

We don't belong here and the manager, players and fans are all hopefully thinking the same.

The mentality has to shift. I personally would not be happy with dropping any points against the first four teams, the squad we are left with is still good enough on paper to win these games.

Peterborough, Port Vale, Rotherham and Wimbledon they are small clubs we should only be playing against in a cup draw.

If we don't get maximum points I'm not going to hound out BBM but I don't think it's an unrealistic aim.

Some teans are just bogey teams:
4-0 up at posh drew 4-4!
Beat Leeds 2-1 in FA Cup, lost 2-0 to Posh following Saturday at home!

I was at all those games and still shake my head about the ‘Posh’ away game. There was just something in the air that it was bound to happen after their second goal!

I still rejoice the Leeds game and Sam’s ‘walking around the pitch’ antics that so wound up the Peacock supporters!

At this club, we know to to expect nothing but the unexpected! :ayatollah:

I was at the 4-4 game too and we were lucky they didn't get a winner right at the death as their keeper came up and headed narrowly over. I said to my boys at half time that we had to treat it as though it was 0-0 and not take our foot off the gas, which unfortunately was exactly what we did, and as you say it was inevitable that they would equalize. Awful result after being 0-4 up but what a fantastic game of football it was.
