About Peterborough United

Peterborough finished 18th in this league last season, five points clear of relegation.

They are now heading into their third straight season in League One, having been relegated from the Championship in 2022.

11 of their last 12 campaigns have been in League One.

Nicknamed The Posh, they have been owned by Darragh MacAnthony for the last 18 years.

Club Connections

Andy Legg is the biggest name player to play for both clubs.

Ben Turner had a short loan spell at Peterborough before joining us.

The Opposition's Manager

Darren Ferguson is in his fourth spell as Peterborough manager, having returned in January 2023.

His other spells in charge were in the years 2007-09, 2011-15 and 2019-22.

He has achieved promotion from this league three times, the last being in 2021. He has also won the EFL Trophy three times, including in each of the last two season.

Other clubs he managed are Preston and Doncaster.

Opposition Dangerous Players

They have lost a number of their best players over the summer.

I'll pick out Abraham Odoh, he registered 12 goals and assists in the league last season.

Archie Collins has also been a high performer over the last two seasons.

Referee

Benjamin Speedie will take charge of our game against Peterborough United.

Last season, he refereed 44 games - 20 of them in League One. He also was the man in the middle for the Vertu Trophy Final and three Championship games.

He showed 138 yellow cards and two red card, an average of 3.1 yellow cards per game.

Head To Head - last five meetings

Each team have won two of the last five meetings, with the last fixture between the two seeing us beat them 4-0 at CCS in the Championship in February 2022.

The only draw in that time at London Road in August 2021.

Team News - Predicted Line-Ups

Will be able to have predicted line-ups for all other league games going forward, but not going to attempt to do that here as it's the first game and very little to go off.

Last Game

Again, not much to go off here apart from friendlies - I don't believe that last season's games are relevant (neither are friendlies).

Match Odds

Cardiff City - 1/2
Peterborough United - 9/2
Draw - 3/1

It's good to have this back & know that the new season is now days away.

I'm going for a draw only for the simple reason that if we score they will as our defence is our weak point.

If they can defend we will win a d they can't so 2-2 draw for me .
Defence is gonna make or break the season especially after last year's shit show by our defence. Its leaked in pre season aswell. Hopefully we start with a win and we keep it going

Mon Jul 28, 2025 2:21 pm

Peterborough had sold 750 tickets for Saturday as of 29th July so I’d expect at least 1,000 to travel, good support for a small club, big distance and considering its early KO cos of Sky

Hard fought 2-1 City win. Salech header and a random wonder goal from Bagan.

Going for a 2-2 draw think we will find it very hard and struggle on first game, our defence will let us down yet again.

Sadly, we have yet to make a single signing, so there's no improvements on our pathetic team last season. The same players will let us down, especially our defence. We needed a minimum of 3 new defenders brought in.

Peterborough are a team who usually score freely and I just don't see us stopping them with our current squad. I think we will concede a minimum of 2 goals. Anyone thinking the exact same players who took us down with a whimper last season, will magically change their attitudes and improve this season, are deluded.

I'm going to go 1-3 to Peterborough, which will do us good in the long term, as Tan will have no option but to provide some funds to bring in the new players we desperately need.

I feel sorry for BBM, he's getting no help at all currently and even if we do get players in this week, it's too late to properly integrate them into the squad. Once again, we are unprepared, disorganised and playing catch up.

Either a 2-1, or 3-1 victory.
Anything less than a win in this fixture will be considered very disappointing.
We should have more than enough fire power to score 2 or 3 goals if Salech, Robinson and Colwill are fit to play.
But I do fear our defense may still leak soft goals.

2/3-0 to Peterborough. Really don't feel optimistic for this season.

Soon see how good this team is to get us out of this league people keep saying it's good enough without any signings ( to my amazement ) so Saturday will show us a little I guess. I'll go for a draw but hopefully we nick it. Some entertaining football from the view of my seat is all me and my two boys want to see Saturday not some hoofball boring tippy tappy going nowhere crap with one shot on goal in 90 minutes :bluescarf:

We haven't had a confirmed takeover - out of our control

We haven't made a signing - out of our control

Surely it's time to get excited and switch up the negativity; specifically on this forum.

We have some exciting youngsters who have time-served championship experience. We have ex-premier league players who should rip this league up. We have a dynamic, fresh, forward thinking manager who is hitting all the buzz-words... surely there's something to get excited for!!

HOME WIN. SALECH FIELD DAY. RUBIN MASTERCLASS. UNEXPECTED AND WELL NEEDED CLEAN SHEET.

3-0 CARDIFF.

Peterborough have lost most of the more influential players from last season,

They will be flirting with the bottom 4 this season and if we have any intention of challenging for top 6 this season we will need to put teams like this to the sword

It's an emphatic 4-0 win for the bluebirds for me

We are lucky we are playing one of the weaker sides on the opening day.

Peterborough fans are very worried about this season as they have not hardly strengthened.

In League One, Peterborough United's wage bill was one of the lowest, with the club spending a relatively small amount per point earned.
