Cardiff have to have:

Sun Jul 27, 2025 9:30 am

At least 2 or even 3 Tough / been their and done it in the lower Leagues players.

We need leaders.

We will be kicked off the park otherwise.

These young, very good players we have, need players who will give these League 1 players a kick back.

We are already getting injuries and conceding from winning positions.

Mee need some fighters.

Des and that’s my worry with this current squad.

We have an excellent squad of Talented players, but not enough tough, grafters and fighters.

Totally agree with you both....Wintle came on yesterday got knocked off the ball lost it twice more he is not good enough..need a dog in at no 6 with a loud voice similar at CB

Re: Cardiff have to have:

It would be lovely to find the next Aron Gunnarson out there somewhere. And the next Sean Morrison for that matter. Why not throw in the next McNaughton while we are at it. That would add a bit of brute strength and bite to go with this young and talented squad. Not sure they are the sort of 'profiles' BBM will be looking for though. He's possibly been a bit spoilt working with all these elite Man City youngsters.

100% agree with the OP

Re: Cardiff have to have:

Both keepers are poor . We aren't wasting money. It starts at the back and a new keeper is needed

I can't agree more with the sentiment of this post. Leaders = Dogged Results.

I was lucky enough to meet a CCFC coaching employee whilst holidaying in Turkey. We both came up with the key to success......we need a team with at least 3 leaders. The squad does not have to be great, but the TEAM need to know the direction they are going in. That is only driven by hard pros, who have seen it and done it, and then drive the team forward in moments of strife in a game.

We had it in Sean Morrison as a Captain, supported by Bamba and Ralls. Not the youngest guys in the pack, but so, so influential.

We have the ability in youth, now we need a few old heads to direct them to their full potential. :bluebird:

Remember, we are left with the squad that got relegated without any fight in them how will they be any different in a far more physical league?? Until we bring in 3-4 quality players (or the take over is complete) then we are NOT just going to breeze through this league.

Re: Cardiff have to have:

Most of us agree on this subject.
We have a promising young squad, but need that extra experience and know-how to secure a promotion push!

Re: Cardiff have to have:

Whilst I dont disagree the squad needs some additions, this idea that we need Warnock style 'battle leaders' like Morrison etc is perhaps out dated and a bit simple. Its not what BBM is trying to create either. If we get it right our play will be fast, slick, possession based football that very few teams in league one will get near us. I do get the worries about defensive frailty and I'd like at least one fullback. A keeper is already on the way too but fans are too eager to judge and predict on preseason games. I think BBM is spot on with his assessment about additions being high quality, likely young, rather than journeyman old pros. Been there and failed with that.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions and usually on this board most opinions vary widely and we can’t agree on much

However, in this case everyone is virtually saying the same thing 3/4 players needed

Tough, experienced leaders to go with the excellent kids. CB, LB midfield and winger for probably the first time ever we all agree on this :ayatollah:

Re: Cardiff have to have:

Did murphy have these type of players at Rochdale?
He likes the young pretty boys not the ugly football bruts in a football sense chambers and winter are experienced but light weights,
i can see where annis is coming from we as a team can get squashed and overun by the more powerful teams who have lumps of meat in football boots running at you.

Re: Cardiff have to have:

I 100% agree, we need mentally strong leaders and as a team, we need to be far more difficult and nastier to play against.

We are currently so soft and easy to play against. I think we will concede a minimum of 2 goals against Peterborough. I'm very worried.

Re: Cardiff have to have:

Sun Jul 27, 2025 11:18 am

2 things. Firstly it was obvious we would need 3/4 experienced players. But yet again we start the league without this in place. Secondly - haven’t started the season yet and already have injuries. If Davies has a slight strain in his hamstring it is clear the physios are not doing their job properly - AGAIN. Bellamy’s condition was managed superbly. It’s simple - we need to warm up properly prior to the start of a game. Lastly - Etete - surely he can’t be injured already. If he’s not wanted just get rid and off the wage bill.

Sound like a broken record but there will be signings, BBM pretty much said the same after the game.

The delay is because the manager ripped up the transfer plan to set his own targets.

If we'd signed 12 early in the window then people would say "it's the same old crap transfers".

Can't win.

Re: Cardiff have to have:

Hopefully, BBM is prepared to sign a few "dogs", who will lead by example in a division that will be far more physical than the Championship or Academy football.
As an ex-Rochdale manager, let's assume he has a few contacts in the lower divisions who can identify the right type of leadership players who can get us promoted.
Am optimistic BBM will get us promoted, but think the first 6-10 games will be a culture shock for a few players...

we shouldn't of let Ralls go

Completely agree Jim, I think it will be key to our season.

Re: Cardiff have to have:

We are soft and lose the ball too easily in dangerous areas where we are left out of position to defend properly. Teams will be told to bully us to get control of the game. I can see lots of goals for and against. Hopefully we score one more than the opposition.

Re: Cardiff have to have:

Watching yesterday, we weren't bad first half, second half was poor, although seem to be going forward more still very slow, Notts County were by far quicker on the counter.
Wintle was very poor when he came on, Mafico though really keen seemed to lack confidence got pushed off ball loads of times.
BBM put Tanner up front and he clearly didn't know what his role was as he eluded to BBM several times.
Robertson was outplayed by the Notts County 14 and that's were he card came from. He didn't really seem in terest in my opinion.
Good game but L1 is going to be tough.
The rest played well

Agree with this. Although I believe both keepers are good on their days. But both too inconsistent

Totally age with lack of hardened leaders in the squad.

I thought Ralls was worth at least another year whilst we were trying to get out of league 1. Understand his injury record.
