LATEST: AND CREDIT TO STEVE BORLEY

Mon Jul 21, 2025 11:27 am

So, according to informed sources at ‘Cardiff City World’, the deal is closer than ever, with Gary Otto’s consortium in pole position

Due diligence has been completed, Mehmet Dalman has reportedly accepted a proposition on the debt to him, so it’s all down to Vincent Tan to accept the deal officially with the final transaction possibly taking place as late as Christmas this year (just to make people aware)

It seems some on here like to have a ‘pop’ at club stalwart, lifelong supporter, and longtime Director, Steve Borley; a man who has put his time, effort, and money into helping (at times) keep our beloved club going

Well, it seems that Steve is more than a ‘bit part’ in ‘oiling the wheels’ of this deal and we are now closer to saying “Selamat tinggal” to Tan Sri Vincent Tan than ever

It’s not quite a ‘done deal’ yet, but credit where it’s due; and ‘thank you, Steve!:occasion5:  :ayatollah:

By due diligence, do you mean the fit and proper test

Due Dilligence will be undertaken by the co sorting to make sure there are no surprises in the accounts.

Fit and proper will be undertaken by the EFL after a deal has been struck.

My understanding is that it pertains to the agreement of a deal. The ‘fit and proper’ is for the EFL to look at; but he’s already an EFL club Director, so hopefully a smooth path :ayatollah:

Thanks for the update Sven, if due diligence is done then completion at christmas seems a long way down the road ?? I know the EFL has to go through the "fit and proper test" but that just leaves Tan and he has no more cards to play he has make a deal.

Sounds promising Chris.

Any deal of this magnitude will take time, so no surprise that it may take until Christmas.

Does this mean tan will be owner until Xmas or will new ones take over running of club? As soon as sll paper work is finalised?

Allan, I think it was a signal that it might not happen ‘overnight’, as some have the impression

You don’t ‘know’ what he did or didn’t do during the dark period, but he would have had his say before ‘towing the party line’, and he is also the man who brought the new training facility back into the club’s ownership at no low cost to himself. He is Cardiff City through and through…

I don’t know if he will stay as part of the new group, but he has played his part in helping secure a new buyer, in conjunction with another (so far unnamed) individual, and for that, he has my gratitude and (I hope) that of those amongst us who want to move forward rather than look backwards at things we can never affect! :ayatollah:

From what I have been told new prospective buys can invest money into the club while it is going through DD. Its at their risk that they do so with no comeback if the deal collapses.

I was critical of the way borley acted on twitter recently,

but having grown up around his family, the things he did to keep the club alive such as remortgage his house etc to pay club bills should never be underestimated

I disagreed with his stance on the rebrand etc but there's never been any doubting he's always had the clubs best interests at heart and is as big a supporter of the club as all of us

Re: LATEST: AND CREDIT TO STEVE BORLEY

Ultimately Borley is not the owner, and regardless of what he says, the ball for major decisions such as the rebrand rests solely with Tan.

If Tan wants to do something, then he can do it regardless of any objections from Borley, the board and also the fans.

Borley is blue throughout, and I feel that the hate he’s getting from certain corners of the supporters is unwarranted and uncalled for.

Very much so.

He wasn’t the only one who toed the line on the rebrand. Thousands did.

I’ve been informed that big credit has to be given to Steve for his major involvement in getting the wheels in motion this is not a rumour this is FACT Ì can’t say any more than that at present

You’re certainly not wrong, Rhys!

Another name (not associated with the club in any official capacity but his name 100% doesn’t start with ‘S’ to curb any supposition) will also be lauded by the Bluebird faithful! :ayatollah:

Not entirely helpful to post that quote out of context.

What he actually said was Tan is advised now is not the right time to sell but that we know Tan is his own man and he doesn't have a track record of doing what his advisors say.

Also pointed out that it Tan didn't want to sell then he wouldn't have let it get this far. Prospective owners have made contact with FAW, Cardiff Council, EFL etc. Wouldn't do that at the start of the process, but towards the end of it.

Another thing he said is either the club or the new prospective owners aren't telling the truth. Club are denying some meetings took place despite people who were at those meetings saying they took place. So it's more likely that it's the club not telling the truth.

Just to give more context because some people will have seen your post and panicked, which helps nobody.

Yea fair enough my apologies I should have put more meat on the bone

Still let's hope this isn't the one time he actually listens to advice

well thats not true. Alot of the information has been given well before this forum put it out. we have a "members show" on mondays, and alot of it has been given on there.

I'm pretty sure the name Gary Otto was only posted on here after the members show
